I have a 2007 Lexus IS250. I only have one key for it, so I bought a used one off Ebay for about 60 bucks. Several dealership said they won't program a used smart key. They want 350 for a new key plus programming.

Before I get ripped off, I just want to make sure if it's possible for Lexus Dealership to reprogram a used key to work with my Lexus? I'm sure they have a system setup so they can wiped used key and re-program. Has anybody got their used key reprogram?

Note: I key I bought off ebay is exactly the same key model I am using right now. I did a search on the forum and google and did not come with any straight answer to this.

Oh yeah, this is my first post so Hi everyone.

they don't have to wipe the used key and then reprogram. the key is programmed to a(any) car. that car accepts that key to start the vehicle.viola running vehicle.

go into key programming section of computer. add key. yes. (insert key, or hold buttons)(sorry its been awhile since i programmed lexus keys.)
shouldn't be much harder. immobi doesn't care which cars the key is programed to, just which car you want to programmed it too. I want to add a key. should be straightforward.

Thank you so much for your help. So I just want to clarified what you're saying it's possible to get my used lexus smart key reprogram to work with my current vehicle? I just need to find a dealership that is willing to do this without trying to sell me a brand new programed key.

I'm in LA trick. I think I'm gonna call some locksmith around my area and see if they can help me with this. Anybody in my situation and have any recommendation?

Okay just to follow up I called Lexus Longo and they said they can do the programming for 125 because that's the hour of labor require. I call up a local Locksmith in alhambra and hey said they can do it and cut the key for 100 bucks.

I'll follow up again once this has been completed successfully. Hopefully this will help others in my situation and do not want to pay 300+ for a spare key.

I work for Lexus in Australia. They can do it, it takes 5 mins with Lexus IT not 1hr, but that is a standard charge time so not much you can do about that, unless you have a hot girlfriend and take her down with you when you speak to the service manager... =p

Good luck

Can you do this yourself same as the first gen ?
You need a new shell to be cut, cost me $20 at Davenport Lexus in Dallas to have it cut.
I programed the Immobilizer and the remote myself for the two used cores i purchased.

Davenport Lexus in Plano and Dallas cuts for $20 and cuts and programs for $50.
they are an independent shop.
They let me try to program my two modules as they couldn't get me in for a few days, it worked !!! so i didnt have to go back.

Okay so I got my used key program and cut today at a local locksmith. They did it for 100 bucks, which is not bad since I only paid 60 dollar for the key off ebay. This was a used key for a lexus ES350??, reprogrammed for my IS250 and took about 30 minutes to do. So not bad for 160 and now i have a spare key.

Most of the dealership want to program for 125 or 320 if you buy the key with programming. Some will give you the run-around, "we do not program used key, only new keys". And if you lose both keys and need to get a new set with computer reprogram it will cost 800+.

hi every one, hope you could help mewith my situation, i lost my key, but i still have a duplicate key blade that i could use to open the doors. but when i tried it in starting my car it wont start, maybe its because of the imobilizer, could i ordera key with a transponder and the imobilizer that would let me start my car?

If this is the spare blade that came in a holder you need to put the holder near the ignition switch/lock.

If its and old key blade without a remote core then it wont.

What year is your car ???

First generation IS (2001-2005) you can program an used key to the immobiliser without clearing the memory.
Lexus vehicles with smart access (2006+) in order to program an used key you need to clear the memory. Only a 'certified' Lexus tech is supposed to be able to do that. You needto get a code from TIS in order to be able to clear the memory.

Hi Guys,

I'm new here. I have a 2006 IS250. I bought it used and I only got one key. I also bought a used remote from eBay and had the key cut and I tested it and it worked. The problem is that I then took the remote to the local dealer in Guam and they tried to reprogram it and it took over an hour and they came back and told me they couldn't do it. They didn't charge me for the time they took. I see that people have successfully reprogrammed their car to accept the used keys from eBay.

I see that the instructions linked previously on the thread are for IS models up to 2005.

Can anyone here confirm that these instructions work for a 2006 model? Are the instructions just for locking/unlocking the car and will it be able to be used to start the car with the push button start?

You can't program the key yourself.

Your dealer can, if he's not an idiot as yours appears to be.

To program a NEW smartkey you just add the key to the car. 5 minutes.

To program a USED smartkey you have to erase all keys from the car and then add them back individually... which is a lot more work and not gonna be free unless your dealer is very generous (1 hour labor minimum would be my guess).

If your dealer says he can't program a used one find a more competent dealer, because they absolutely can, they just have to clear the whole system first

Thanks man. I'll talk to my dealer. The problem is that they are the only one on Guam. I do know some people there so maybe I can explain this to them. I think they just tried to add it by itself. They told me $70+ for the labor for one hour but that beats $500+ for a brand new one if I order it through them. I'll pay the one hour fee.
