o2 sensors

I hope this makes sense, but I am in need of the front 1 and 2 o2 sensors. I can acquire the rear 3 and 4 sensors and wondering if I placed them on the headers if that would work or not. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

No, won't work. Just got done going thru this. Front 2 sensors are true o2 (wideband?) sensors. Back 2 are just post cat narrowband sensors.

Regardless of all it's $600 for 4 new sensors. Really all you need for the engine to run are the front two. The rears are emissions junk. Since one of mine failed (B1S2) I'm getting the TS O2 simulator for $150. It's better than replacing a $150 o2 sensor and waiting for the second to fail.

Are you sure it is your post cat o2 that are bad and not the cat? Also, please do NOT buy o2's for $150 each. Universal Denso O2 can be had off the internet for $45 each (you will have to splice and reuse the old harness). If you want specific o2 with harness and wires finished they're around $80 to $90.

I did, it came up with $89 shipped. Definitely have to concede that's the best price I've seen, have you ordered from there and verified the harness length and molex is correct? Find it hard to believe. I definitely don't trust rockauto to be genuine and fit. Had too many problems with them. Generic is easy to find cheap, authentic and plug and play is difficult.

Rockauto shows sensor 2 (downstream) harness length as 18.7".

In reality it's about 30" for the front bank rear sensor. I wouldn't trust them any more than eBay sellers. For my money I'll buy a simulator for the rear 2.

I've had nothing but a great experience with RockAuto. Many, purchases, never a mistake. I trust their Denso product to be an authentic Denso product. If they send me the wrong thing, they'll fix it I'm sure.

I purchased the Universal sensor from Amazon when I replaced my B1S2 that had a failed heater. I even emailed Denso a question regarding a technical aspect the product; they answered, and it all jives with reality. Pretty confident you'll get the real deal too.

As to the length, that I suppose might be a concern. With the Universal sensor, I can make it whatever length I feel fits best.

It looks like RockAuto just has the wrong (perhaps outdated or simply inaccurate) information on the length. Looking at the product description on the website I shared, you see that the length is ~28 inches. I trust that's what you'll get from RockAuto, regardless of what their database shows (unless it's explicit about the clarification, then trust that instead; that's not the case here).

Don't get me wrong. I LOVVEE Rockauto. The only online parts source I use more is Amazon due to my Prime free 2 day shipping. I've spent no less than 10grand at rockauto since it's inception. 99% have been good experiences, they've mislabeled more than one brake rotor and sold me some garbage wiper blades.

However, I only buy mechanical parts from them. Electronics are nearly impossible to "visually inspect" when they arrive. If somebody else has ordered the part and it's worked for 12 mos with no issue, then yah I'll give it a shot. Otherwise I'll stick with local or places with no hassle warranty and returns like amazon.

By all means if you've used their Direct for O2 sensor, PLEASE let me know.

The main issue I have with Rockauto (or any online parts superstore) is their descriptions. If there's a hint it could be wrong I'm not gonna pay to ship it back and forth.

I'll give the o2 place a shot. FYI (to the guy who told me to search) I've been in here for almost 8 years (beat you by a month Johnny :p ) and done months of searching. I only post when links are broken ( which is the rule, not the exception on here). Then when I try to buy something in the marketplace I'm told I haven't post whored enough so I must be a scammer. So I'm forced to post about o2 sensors. Cool rule!

I opted to save a bit more cash and go the Universal route and splice it it myself. I did not purchase one with the harness, as you call a "direct fit" (Denso calls: "OE Style").

However, I would bet money that if you do order one from RockAuto, it will be a direct fit, and last longer than 12 months. Sometimes even the best of parts and quality fail, it's just the nature of the beast; Denso products have a 1 year warranty.

If you're still not convinced, and saving nearly 50% in costs matters, just pick up the phone and call them for clarification: RockAuto lists length X for Denso product number Z, while Denso claims product number Z is Y in length. They'll be happy you called and told them of their error.

I would only use the http://www.densoproducts.com website, as that's the one that the official Denso website lists as an online distributor. http://densoautoparts.com/sites/all/libraries/denso/choose_shop.php?pn=234-4015&pt=o2sn

If your concern is the no-hassle exchange (note, if RockAuto messes up, then they should pay to fix it: call ahead if you're worried and notice an error), then just slap the part number into Amazon. I'm pretty sure Amazon proper distributes all of the Denso sensors for our car; that's where I bought my Universal from, even cheaper than RockAuto or the http://www.densoproducts.com.

This thread surely has gone off the deep end. First of all, what code do you even have? A heater code verses an efficiency code is obviously a very different problem, so we need that first. Oh wait, Johnny did ask in your very first response which has yet to be answered. Let's start there. There is no need to replace these sensors randomly and even of you did buy all four you could get them all much less than $600.

All oxygen sensors are the SAME, post cat, pre cat, all years(01-05) and are narrowband zirconia sensors. The ONLY reason they have different part numbers is because they are cut to a predetermined length and a connector is placed on it, otherwise they are all the same. DO NOT buy a garbage Bosch generic sensor, it's a waste of money.

Why not simply ask our vendor Rockauto about their lengths if there is a problem? I highly doubt a reputable vendor sells an OE sensor that is too short. EBay is a great supplier of parts, very reputable seller Justlexusis300parts has his own store on other just for our cars, never had any eBay issues and their 90k service kits are the tits.
If you are running with cats, DO NOT sim them. Sims are for cat less exhausts.

Jason,

Are you confusing me with the OP? I was trying to help him (he never posted again), Johnny then stepped in to search nanny him. There was actually 2 threads going in parallel, Johnny was posting in both and touting his knowledge supremacy while dancing around my technical questions (which turned out to be valid). B1S2 had failed, I have an 05 IS300 that will in short order have an 03 GE head and ECU when I swap my prebuilt single GTE setup in there (obviously no cats). I have to sort out the downstream O2 sensor issue before I wire it all up and Token Solutions lack of communication and the fortuitous B1S2 prompted me to learn all this stuff on my own. Posted for help but Johnny obviously doesn't know or doesn't care cause he thinks I'm a "noob" because I don't post on this board.

I appreciate the info, I think I've gathered enough info now to build an O2 simulator that will work for all years.

Honestly I was just trying to find out why are folks changing oxygen sensors and what codes prompted the need for it's replacement, as I was just trying to say that if it is an efficiency code then it may not be O2 related. I'm pretty sure all sensors are narrowband and their heater resistance is 11-16 ohms @68°F.
Johnny is a very helpful and reputable member, it's the fact that these types of threads are brought up time after time and most questions have already been answered. I know you've been here a lot longer than me, but the fact that the search box is hardly used is a common problem with a lot of newer members these days. That's why we get frustrated and encourage to check the archieves first. Maybe they are using the wrong search tool, idk.

I gotcha. I must have read over 100 posts about secondary o2 resistance before finally posting. Almost every one was from 2007-2011 and ALLL the images (electrical diagrams, pics of wiring colors, pics of sensors) were not found. I understand it's out of the boards control when imageshack gets discontinued, but maybe If the images were there (can you guys host them locally in the thread now?) you probably wouldnt get these popping up. I'll post some links in this thead when I'm back at a PC. If somehow some of the images can be restored this problem will likely go away.
