so i noticed most is300 that are fixed up are auto turbod and everything,
i rarely see any manuals and i was wondering why?>
whats the diffrenece and pros and cons on having manual or auto is300
i have a manual but might go to auto because i hear its better

That's because on our cars, the auto transmission can withstand more horsepower than the manual can. Also, 5 speed manual IS300 are rare.

IF your planning to have a 500+ hp IS300 then switch to auto. IF not keep the manual.

i don't know where you've been looking, but actually most boosted IS's have supra 5-speed or 6-speed manual trannies. and many of us actually went from auto to supra manual. not always stock manual to supra manual.

somewhat true, about the auto trannies being able to withstand more power than stock manuals. its true if you upgrade your auto tranny, with sprag clutch, valve body, tranny cooler. if you keep the stock auto tranny as it comes, its not stronger than the stock manual tranny. and it might actually be weaker (there have been some members running 400hp on stock manual trannies. i wouldn't recommend it! but its been done)

but to withstand true power, your weakest link will always be your stock tranny until you upgrade to a 5 or 6-speed supra manual.

Strength aside, the reason you might see more fixed up autos is because less than 1 out of 10 IS300s were made with the right amount of pedals.:chill:

^^^ that's why you have plenty of us who implanted the missing one ;)

a vote to determine.

Should I stick with the Manual?

Note:
I am trying to make this car go as fast as i can.

On Auto is300 does tranny have history on going bad?

Consideing manuals are rare what should i sell mine at if i do decide to go auto??
2002 92kmiles manual 2nd owner
Perfect condition with no problems.

And what do you is300 owners think of "if its not manual it aint legit"

Im glad i registered here because talking to my friends with hondas just hate on me haha

Its a really tough decision....

IMHO keep the manual and when your car is "ready" (hp wise) then upgrade to 5 or 6-speed supra manual as LO suggested.

if you're thinking of selling your manual for an auto IS300, you're going the wrong way buddy..

#9 ·
OP, PLEASE listen to LO!!!! Keep the 5 speed manual.

Reading your other thread it makes me think you're just following the masses and not doing what you want. You're looking to sell the car and get an auto because "everybody is doing it'? Insecure? :suspiciou

Auto is just more convenient for the drivers who don't feel like playing with the gears. E-Shift mode has 5 gears that you can have fun with. It's more fun with E-Shift because you feel like you're a race car driver. Manual is for drivers who like to have total control over the car. I prefer auto on the IS300 because I get a better feel of it for my experience with the E-Shift mode.

So that did help although i would have like more of you to give pros and cons for both manual and auto, im not trying to go with whats in im basically jst more comfortable with auto i mean manual is cool and like yll say its fun but bcause its my only car and im always in traffic jam i would rather just have the same car but auto but anyways thanks for the answers and you opinions.
It helped me alot with my desicsion.

Then be a noob and get an auto! :)

keep it manual. trust me. i had an 1997 twin turbo supra AUTO. and i think that was the worst investment i ever made. if that car was manual i would still have it today. it just wasn't fun for me. i got an 5speed is300 now and im loving it. planing to do a 2jz-gte vvti swap with either a r134(supra 5-speed) or v160(supra 6-speed). but anyways keep it manual. its just funner.

I didn't realize so many IS guys recommend the W58 5-speed from the NA supra, it really shows how bad the stock W55 is...
In the supra community it's looked down upon like an unwanted bastard child, and I can see why cause in my old NA-T supra I went through 3 W58's on 450WHP but never had to replace the clutch/flywheel. I never dragged the car, just a couple street runs once in a while. Supra guys all recommend if you're pushing 400WHP+ you're gonna need to upgrade to the V160.
