I am following the instructions but it does not open the door. Is there a trick to this. Someone mentioned holding down a button on the door motor itself?

Press and hold the button for the 16,000 hours  as listed in the instructions, when the light begins flashing, keep holding the button and press the button on your garage door opener. If you have an opener with a rolling security code, I think there is soemthing that you have to do with the opener itself. Not 100% sure, hope it helps somewhat/

here's what you do if you have a rolling code:

1. hold down the button on your car's homelink until it flashes (25 sec?)
2. press the button on your remote
3. press the programming button on the garage opener (the actual unit hanging from your garage ceiling)
4. press the homelink button programmed to your garage door.

when you push the button on the actual opener on the ceiling, is anything suppose to happen? cuz when i push it, nothing happens at all. i thought when you push it, your garage opens or closes. sorry for dumb question
do you have a Genie? if so, then yes, the remote on the controller wont work, you need to reach up to the actual opener motor itself, find the right button on there (i believe it's a medium sized red button), and follow the instructions there, make sure you move your car as close to the motor as you can, but dont let the garage door drop on your car!!!!!!

There are two ways - 1. is for opener without rolling code, 2. is for rolling code.

1. Hold opener near button in car (1-3 inches), press & hold both buttons at the same time, you have to hold both of them until the homelink indicator in the car changes from a slow to fast and back to a slow blink, the manual says ~20 seconds but mine took about 40 sec.

Now the important part: I thought mine was not working at first. You have to push & HOLD the button in the car. At first I was not holding it long enough and thought it was not working. I have to hold mine about 8 seconds before the door will start to open or close.

2. For rolling code, check opener manual to find out how to set for new remote, most have a button that you push, the button is usually located on the opener motor housing itself. Then you have a limited amount of time to set car opener using exactly the same steps as in 1 above.

Good luck! :p

That's right. You have to push the car button for maybe a second. It doesn't activate instantly.
