The Lexus IS is a reduced official vehicle sold by Lexus since 1999. The IS was initially sold under the Toyota Altezza Toyota Arutettsua) nameplate in Japan from 1998 (the word Altezza is Italian for "height"). The IS was presented as a section level game model situated underneath the ES in the Lexus lineup.

The original Altezza (codename XE10) was propelled in Japan in October 1998, while the Lexus IS 200 (GXE10) made its presentation in Europe in 1999 and in North America as the IS 300 (JCE10) in 2000. The original, inline-6-controlled IS highlighted vehicle and wagon variations. The second-age IS (codename XE20) was propelled comprehensively in 2005 with V6-controlled IS 250 (GSE20) and IS 350 (GSE21) vehicle models, trailed by an elite V8 car form, the IS F, in 2007, and hardtop convertible forms, the IS 250 C and IS 350 C, in 2008. The third-age Lexus IS debuted in January 2013 and incorporates the V6-controlled IS 350 and IS 250, half and half IS 300h and execution tuned F Sport variations.

Delivered as an immediate contender to the extravagance sports cars of the main European extravagance marques, the XE10 arrangement Toyota Altezza and Lexus IS was planned with a more prominent exhibition accentuation than regularly observed on earlier Japanese extravagance vehicles. The building work was driven by Nobuaki Katayama from 1994 to 1998 under the 038T program code, who was liable for the AE86 venture.
