1. Why is the IS300 not in the same class as the S4?
Like S4 said "However one is in a performance league well above another." Another level seems to imply that they're not in the same class. Also there a car called the A4 that is in the same class.
2. Why then is the new M3 in the same class as the S4?
It's not. The M3 is superior. But both are "performance enhanced" versions of entry luxo sedans (ie. IS300, 325/330, etc.)
2a. The IS300 with 225hp is about $37k driveout. The S4 with 250hp is about $42K driveout. The new M3 with 330hp is about $51K driveout.
Actually, the IS300 is about $34,000. (37K driveout)
The S4 is about $42,000. (46K drivout)
The difference is not chump change.
3. How do you guys determine what is in which class?
How much they cost, and what they're intended to do, and for whom.
