Just had XM installed at Best Buy today. I had them mount it where the seat heater switches would be. One problem I see now is opening up the cigarette tray. Bye bye change holder. Oh yeah, they scratched my dash! They were good about it and said they would pay for the damage. You might be able to see it on the photo. Here it is:

Install was good (except for the scratches). Monthly charges of $9.99 is not bad ($11.xx after tax, not sure what planet these tax charges are from). As for the channels, I love 'em. You can't beat turning on NASCAR Radio and hearing a race from 1994. An absolute must buy if you drive a lot.

Hi scottc25,

That's funny, I had my satellite radio installed at SoundAdvice and they scratched mt dash in the same exact place. I had an FM modulator down there which is why they scratched it there. But now I switch to a satellite ready radio and got rid of the FM modulator.

Anyway, trust me when I tell you that it's near impossible to repair that.
They are going to have to but the whole piece and replace it.

Have fun taking your eyes off the road constantly, I had it there first then moved it up to where my eyes can see it w/o taking my eyes off the road as much, I realized I was not looking at the road while changing stations.

I'm up for suggestions to other spots. Also, I do notice I take my eyes off of the road. I am better when I use the remote though. Let's just hope I have a fast learning curve when it comes to remembering the station numbers.

i have my roady in the same spot, i have tried it all over and in every place i still find myself taking my eyes off the road. I am thinking about ordering a telescoping cell phone mount so that I can pull it out and closer when driving, yet puuch it in tight when not driving.

UGH! Why do you guys buy the roady? the new Terk Unit has a seperate receiver and a small controller. Very good price. Hide the receiver and the controller is a snap to mount. also comes with pre-outs if you want to do the Aux Input mod.

This is very true. HOWEVER, correct me if I'm wrong, but a Jiggafett-style installation (which, if I remember correctly, was snug up to the upper-right corner of the driver's side A-pillar) would only work for a 2001 IS. It would probably interfere with the driver's side curtain airbag on 2002 & newer ISs. I can just see that curtain airbag deploying in an accident and sending the XM tuner flying over the airbags & hitting the driver's or rear seat passenger's face...

Even without the airbag there it will still go flying in an accident (don't ask me how I know ). But, yes you are correct. Maybe down at the bottom corner of the drivers side window. I've been meaning to move it there due to a slight glare at certain times of the day, then again I've also been meaning to buy one of those plastic film covers for protecting PDA's and just cut it to size and place it over the screen on the unit to prevent that slight glare.

well i got mine when it first came out, and i got a discount cause i work for delphi, thats why i got that one. i mounted mine in that dash tray in the back, i don't have to take my eyes off the road 8)

XM question (NOT using FM modulator)

Does anyone have XM hooked up using the Roadie or SkyFi remotes without using an FM modulator?

I ask because I'd rather have the quality of using an RCA connection (amp mod) than an FM modulator, but all the installs I've seen posted all use the FM modulator.

I have my Delphi unit mounted in the exact same spot! Oh, and Circiut City scratched my dash also! issed: Other than that I love the music programs!!! 3 of my family members also have XM radio installed in their cars.

What's the Terk Unit?

I got the Roady because I didn't want a new head unit, I'm too lazy and chicken to do the AUX mod to the stock head unit, the roady cost $120 with no installation costs or deck scratches, and I got a free home deck unit.

All the wires are hidden beneath the center console area except the one going into the tape deck.
