i have been reading through some old posts where people have soldered in rca's to their head unit audio imputs for aftermarket audio equipment. i was wondering if this concept could be applied in place of the tape deck. basically, find the wires that controll the audio from the tape deck out, cut them and splice in rca's, and use the "tape" button as the button that controls the audio for a dvd player/ ps2/ ect. i never use my tape deck, and i dont have a factory navigation system, plus it would keep things clean.

That would require disassembling the headunit and cutting of the PCB board. The time spent on it would not be worth the effort. It is better to upgrade the whole system to an aftermarket one.
Besides, the tape mechinism would also need to be overriden so it doesn't engage.
