Nah, I'm not jealous, I like the car, test drove one yesterday for my fiancee. The dealer was NOT happy when I tried pulling an 'SMRA' spin move in the lot. Should have brake stanced a little harder. I got the semi spin with what I thought was a chirp. Took it out on the road and weaved and ducked through some traffic. Funny enough I was asked by three sales guys about my Type-S (Which we drove in to get there) if I liked it and they actually did not know that much about it. But why would they? The IS300 is a nice car, I liked everything but the acceleration and interior. Those two things are what I like in a car so it was not a match for me. BUT, since I am considering buying one I obviously have NOTHING to be jealous about. You can crack on the Type-S (Type-Slow) just like I crack on the IS300 (I'M SLOW 300) it's all good. I am not looking to make enemies here especially If I decide to buy one.
i think comptech brings up a good point: i don't hate the is300, just as i don't think anyone truly hates the car. it's a good car, and i damn near bought one. if i didn't buy the cl-s, the is300 would have been my second choice. just because i own a cl-s does not preclude me from liking some aspects of other cars -- there doesn't have to be polarization like this, fellas. sure, we go back and forth -- is300 is slow, cls is ugly, whatever -- but that's just part of being an enthusiast. imagine the alternative: you could drive an escort and be utterly and completely passionless about it, thereby missing an entire aspect of your current lives. how fun would that be?
me, i'll take some sparring over nondescript boredom any day of the week. the fact is, we both have nice cars, and all the nitpicking is just that: nitpicking. you'll find the same behavior across a wide variety of subjects -- bikes, computers, etc. -- because it's human nature to be proud of your purchase. and on the faceless internet, this nature is amplified to sometimes stupid heights, as this remains one of the few places you can act largely like an a$$hole without any real consequences.
Don't get me wrong, I support the IS300 to the fullest but to say we have the phattest!illest! dopest! ride in all the land is a bit of a stretch. Every car has their advantages/disadvantages and even those are opinionated (ie. comfort of auto tranny vs. manual performance). You have every right to say our ride is better than theirs but at least back it up with reasonable points. Not "our car will kick your car's ass anyday dude".
When did I ever say "our car will kick your car's ass anyday dude"???
That was a theoretical example of what an over-zealous IS owner might say. Hey I'm on your side remember? The IS is a very solid piece of machinery and can more than hold its own. If you really believe that it backs itself up then why the need to attack the Acura camp with a general comment like "ours is better than yours"? Admitted they invaded our forum but you gotta admit they add spice to the topics. Competition fuels the fire and and forces improvement.
