one of my friend got some new winter tire.. and they look "funny" on the stock rim.. and I notice the different way the tire look when they are not on the rim while they put the tire on.. got me thinking..so I ask them.. they say some tire come with "rim protector " some don't.. so just want to know.. because even at tirerack.com there are no info on anything about this kind of stuff..??? any help from you guys that know tire??

How would it protect the rim against a pothole? Maybe the F1s are different from the Toyos? On the Toyos, an extra piece of rubber, about 2 mm, covers the rim lip.
