The Valentine 1 is the best by far. Best range, multiple bogey tracking, directional indicators, great at differentiating false alarms from the real deal. It's well worth the extra bucks and it'll pay for itself if it helps you avoid just one or two additional tickets.
Like Austin, I had my original Passport for quite some time until it was finally overtaken by technology. From ther I tried a little bit of everything (2 more Escort/Passport models, a BEL, and Uniden) then finally spent the bucks for a V1. Well I stuck with the V1 - it is functionally the best of all I have tried. It is quite a pain to mount (blatant solicitation for suggestions here) because of it's size but well worth the inconvience.
V1...my friend was using a 7500 in my TL the other day. It didn't catch instant on, and I saw cars in front of us. A V1 would catch that little beep of instant on, so we would have known to slow down. WE got a 96/65 for not having my V1 with me.
Anyone know the legality of radar detectors in California? or a website that lists it?
If it is legal, and you still get pulled over and the cop sees it, is that ok? Would he be more harsh on you or something? I'm expecting he probably wouldn't let u off with a warning anymore if he ever planned on doing so...
As far as I know, radar detector is legal in CA. At least that is what a traffic school instructor said a while ago. I don't think there is a law saying that if they see a radar detector in your car, they should treat you differently. But I am sure they will, since you are trying to prevent them from giving you a ticket and that is how they make money.
The only state that I know about where the detectors are illegal is Virginia.
Now about the detectors.
I've used the Escorts.
I use the 7500 now and had the one before that. It was stolen.
The Escort 7500 is awesome! (K,X,Laser,Contruction Warning....)
But you must Learn to read it.
Like in the strip of interstate I use regularly I know where the ONE false reading is. (Super Markets....)
If the detector alerts anywhere else you can be sure its the MAN!!
Now, whats this "Bogie" counter the V-1 has?
Is this a function that counts false alarms?
And also is the V-1 stealth from the VG-1 detector (Detector That Detects Detectors) that Virginia State Troopers Use?
I think I will get a V-1.
