For the newbies!!

Placed in order of most popular, then by price

** Most popular among .net members**

HKS Hiper $425 - A nice deep rumble while accelerating, nice quiet rumble at idle, not ricey at all

HKS Carbon Ti $579- Similar in sound to the Hiper, but the Carbon Ti is made of carbon fiber on the muffler and therefore is lighter

HKS Dragger II $479 - Also similar sounding to other HKS products. Sounds MEAN at WOT!!

(cb) Greddy EVO $449 - The least powerful of all, because of the smaller inlet on the muffler. Also, with a stock setup, has pleased just about every owner on .net. Sounds very mean at WOT, and even good at idle. MAYBE a little more ricey sounding than the HKS products, but it depends on the other mods to your car also.

L-sportline $468 - Quiter of the chosen, even at WOT. Good power gains and a nice professional look

L-tuned $609 - similar to the l-sportline. Quiet at idle and not very loud at acceleration. Also very nice look and good power gains.

**Other exhausts, in order of price**

Top Secret Titanium Exhaust $1,380
(cb) JIC Magic 505 Titanium $ 989
Toms $589
Veilside Titanium $560
Injen SS $535
(cb) Tanabe Super Medallion Racing $499
C-west mega exhaust $494
(cb) Tanabe Super Medallion Hyper $489
Rod Millen Motorsports (RMM) $469
(cb) Apexi N1 exhaust $439
Stillen exhaust $429
(cb) Apexi World $389
Blitz Nur-Spec $339
5zigen fireball exhaust $249

**(cb) = catback systems. These systems include a b-pipe which is connected to the rear section exhaust and connects to your y-pipe/mid-pipe.

These are the lowest prices I could find, be sure and check the .net store first!! :D You will find used exhausts being sold all the time in the Member Sale/Trade forum for better prices. If anyone finds better prices or would like to add to the list, please PM me so I can edit, or post a reply.

The horsepower gains are comparable. The HKS products average about 7-9 RWHP depending on your setup. The Greddy is about 4-5 RWHP. Most others are in the same ranges.

Some tuners have custom exhaust systems that they will build for you. Please check with PFS and Toyomoto and any other tuners for their prices and specs. I have heard some of these custom exhausts in person and I can say they are worth the money!!

Please remember that our car is an inline 6. You are not going to get the deep throaty rumble at idle that you may have with domestic V8's. Also, because our car is inline, you will not see dual exhausts. It is possible to have a dummy pipe made and a custom bumper molded, it has been done before if you want to spend the time and money.

If anyone wants to add their input, please feel free!!

Just to note that, the HKS silent hiper on an IS300 definitely does not sound like that... it's alot more quieter.

Hey, I have a GReddy EVO... since it's 2-piece cat-back and the HKS systems are just an axle back system... how do you claim it is the LEAST powerful, especially when it runs a bigger piping than the HKS products... 70mm piping. I know HKS runs 60mm piping. What are you talking about a smaller inlet the the muffler?

I'd like to open this up for discussion among other HKS and EVO owners.... thanks. :D

Yes the inlet on the muffler is smaller. The Greddy is 2.5" compared to the 3" of the HKS products. Therefore most dynos have proven an average HP gain of about 4-5 RWHP, versus the 8-9 RWHP from HKS. I have the greddy myself, but I am not concerned with the additional 4 HP. I wanted one that sounded the best, and the Greddy seemed to get good reviews.

Interesting information. I have no dyno results, so I couldn't really go either way. I like the sound of my Evo as well. That still blows me away that the HKS gives double the HP and doesn't even touch that rear section between the cat and the axle. Wow. Maybe GReddy needs to get it together

interesting tht you brought up this exit loss into the muffler, but on the other hand the gradual enlargement of the HKS also constitutes a head loss of the gas, so that should be taken into consideration in its efficiency/power losses

I brought this up about 1 yr ago and still i dont see where people say they get horsepower from this exhaust. I have the HKS hiper and took it off my car.. My low end was completely gone. My car lagged from 0-30 i just dont get it.I see every time 8-9 hp it just get to me  . The only time i every felt any performance was above 50MPH.. Not worth it low end was hella more important to me..
