What's w/all the "wheel polls?"

574 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  junedog
Why are there so many posts about "how do these wheels/rims look?" or "What do you guys think about these..."

If you like it, put the damn things on. Who cares about what other IS owners or others in general think.

Just an opinion from a crusty over-the-hill curmudgeon.

Well alot of us newer owners, or soon to be owners, don't really what will fit or really looks great without some help. Thats why posts pop up from time to time. People just want some reassurace that they will look good, and fit well.
heh...this is pretty funny...

I have no problem if the question centers around fitment particularly proper offset and whether or not fenders need to be rolled.

However, most of the posts I read are simply questions attempting to gain acceptance or validation from other people. It has little or nothing to do w/the technical aspects of choosing an appropriate rim/wheel.

I equate the need for acceptance to that of asking your school buddies/classmates what they are going to wear to school the next day. You remember, "what are you going to wear?" I need to make sure we match.

Again, just my opinion.
Shouldn't the decision be yours and yours alone. Isn't it your money that your spending on these mods?

Now, unless someone buys be rims/wheels, then I'll take their opinions into consideration.

But if its my cash, who cares what other people think.

Kids, this is called freewill and "the right to choose." Make a decision and live w/its consequences.
Well its kind of hard to live with a $4000 + mistake. Its much easier to ask here first and get a few idea's of what other people are using, and if they even fit. Some places will sell you anything and tell you they fit. I personally want 19's but i am not sure what size will fit, i called a few mail order places and they were not sure either. So who do you think would no more, the people here at IS300 that have probaly done alot of research on what offsettings and sizes will fit, or some mail order company that just wants your money.
As I wrote earlier, I think the technical aspects of rim fitment are valid questions to pose in this forum.

But my interpretation of a lot of these "polls" revolves around the sole issue of obtaining other people's opinions and/or acceptance on the pure appearance of a rim/wheel.

If 10 people say a wheel is nice, does it turn what is otherwise an ugly rim/wheel to a "nice" rim/wheel? NO.

All you've got are 10 people willing to tell you their opinions. I bet you get another 10 telling you the exact opposite.

Your personal opinion is what truly counts.
Its very Ivory League in here. Are you guys wearing turtlenecks w/ cardigans?
Just trying to expand the way people think.

Aw come on Hyper, you know you pictured yourself cruising down the boulevard in your Supra sportin' 19" teddy bear wheels more than once in the past...
