I had this happen to my Eclipse once before. It wasn't to the point where engine die completely, but you could here the engine went totally silent for a fraction of a second and every instrument in the car went dead during that time. I never really quite sure what happened as it only happen once. My only guess at the time is that there maybe some surge that went through the car, since the ground was wet and I was in the parking lot outside of Fry's where anything can happen.
