I don't know if this has ever been discussed, but I noticed this while filling up gas the other day.

I let my car idle at a gas station for 20 minutes to empty the tank completely last week, all after I had been driving for 30 miles after the gas light came on.

The car finally died and wouldn't start, so I started to fill up.

As I got to $55, it was at 18.03. At $55.50, it was 18.196 gallons. I decided to stop.

This is at $3.05 a gallon.

I thought we had 17.5 gallon gas tanks. Has anyone else ever noticed this?

The fuel filler neck will take a bit extra if you top it off a bit.

^^ Yeah, you can suck up all the bad stuff at the bottom.

17.5 doesn't include reserve? I don't know about that, I've never gotten more than 17 gallons in and that includes driving 50 miles with the fuel light on. We're talking about the IS300 right?

I try not to let my car get below 1/4 tank so it doesn't suck up the bad stuff at the bottom
The pump sucks from the bottom...

It just not good to let it run dry or run out of gas on purpose...

I'm hoping the bad stuff sinks on the side away from the pump. I also do it so when there's a gas crisis I have a full tank.

Yeah, I'm never doing that again. I just wanted to see how much I could get out of a full tank doing that fuel economy test and it was then that I found out that I could fill it up to 18.2 gallons.

By the way, I got 430.7 to the gas light, so that's pretty good, considering there's a good 20-30 miles of gas left after the light comes on.

So 450 to 460 miles out of 18.2 gallons = 24.7 to 25.2 mpg...feels great haha.

Thanks for the +rep Acumenhokie...Hokie pride! You too Squareback.
