Hi everyone,

I'm looking into the IS350 + premium plus (with 18'inch wheels) + Navi/ML packages and wanted to know if it's worth going for the ML option and the 18'inch wheels? Also, if I'm assuming this car with all these packages will not be available at the dealer so I'll have to place an order with them. I have a few questions and would really appreciate if you could help me out here:

1. How many days/months am I looking at before I can get the IS? Does it take a long time for the order to come?
2. Does the dealer give out a loaner car during this period?
3. Also, is edmunds a reliable source to get the pricing information?
4. If I want a really good deal, is it advisable to go through the internet pricing dept. or is it better to negotiate when at the dealer?
5. Lastly, I'm also looking into BMW 328 (they got a face lift for 2009), just wondering how would you compare the IS350 with that car? would you choose the IS over the BMW?

Thank you.

I think ML is very much worth it (but that the nav is not)... ML by itself was $940 MSRP, $752 invoice last year...and no way you can improve the factory system that much for that little otherwise.

Nav on the other hand is $2500 by itself and does less than a Garmin that cost 1/10th that much.

A special order takes 2-4 months typically... mine took about 2.5

You don't get a loaner during that time since you haven't bought anything yet.

Edmunds has been fairly reliable for me at least

Who to negotiate with really varies by dealership so that'd hard to say

And to BMW- for one Lexus is more reliable as a brand...for another the 350 is -much- faster than the 328.. the only 3-series that is comparable for performance is the 335 and you'll find that similarly optioned the 335 is a LOT more expensive and still not as nice on the inside.

A 328 is no contest against an IS350. Not even close.

A Nissan 350Z will also lose to the IS in a drag race, but not by much.

A BMW 335i will be dead even in a drag race, and will be a little faster (though not by as much as people think) than an IS350 in the corners. It mostly comes down to driver skills and tires though.

As for choosing... The IS will be more reliable and has a better interior finish and is more comfortable. The bimmer "feels" more sporty. It comes down to personal style.

I just got my '08 350 (my 2005 F-150 FX4 got totaled...gotta love GAP insurance) with the luxury +18 in tires.

I bet you would be suprised to see what the dealer has in stock, they may have the premium package you want. I think the 18 in tires are nice and the Nav package? Yeah I have that too...think about it this way. You are looking to spend near $40k once everything is said and done. Oh yeah, you're buying a Lexus. Do you really want to have a cluttered looking dash and ruin the "look" of a lexus with a windshield mounted GPS? The only thing I have hanging off that thing is my Escort 9500i (which I would invest in, since you WILL try and see how fast you can go). Besides, the touch screen and all the touch screen controls are a nice feature instead of having knobs all over your car. And the nav should come with a back up camera, which is money in tight parking spots and making sure that you are in the lines. I don't have the ML, there weren't any on the lot when I picked mine out, but I'm not sure I would have gotten it. The stock system sounds pretty good.

1) Don't know...mine was at the lot with 21 miles on it.
2) No loaner car...you haven't given them any money yet. But you do get one when you take it in for service (just set up an appointment).
3) I'm not sure Edmunds is going to help a whole lot since you're looking at a 2009. Edmunds is great for used but to get market prices for a new car, I'm not sure. I was able to get the dealer to take $5,000 off the price plus throw in a free window tint (worth about $400). Oh, and they offered to take me to lunch once a month...which I declined.
4) Go with both the internet and dealer. Or hell, take the internet price and go to the dealer with that to get more off. Also try your bank/credit union, they might be able to get you a good price. Unfortuantly, my bank (USAA) didn't have anything available.
5) You can't really compare a BMW 328 and IS 350. Thats like comparing apples to oranges. The BMW 328: 3.0 liter, 230 HP vs IS 350: 3.5 liter, 306 HP. To compare BMW's you need to look at the 335 and IS 350 to be even.

Since my truck was a total loss and I didn't have to pay a single penny for it or insurance, I was able to go to the dealer with a blank check, which was really nice since it all rotated around what I wanted versus what the dealer was willing to give me. That being said, I looked at everything from a NISMO 350Z, Audi A4 Turbo/quattro, BMW 335i, Infiniti G35 and the IS 350 to make sure that I was getting the best deal/car...obviously I went with the IS 350 and I don't have a single regret. There are just things and features about the Lexus that you can't get with out paying extra with the other companies.

Think about a lease...thats what I'm doing. I don't want to be making payments on a car that is as expensive to fix as a Lexus if its not under warranty. I've got 15K miles/year for 4 years. So right as the warranty goes out and the 60k mile check up comes due, I'm turning that thing in and getting a new car. And lets face it, who doesn't like getting a new car?

Final thoughts if you're trying to decide between Lexus and BMW?

"In 2007, Lexus scored the top position for the sixth consecutive year in the Auto Express survey on service satisfaction.[135][136] In 2006, Lexus ranked first for the eleventh time in the J.D. Power Customer Service Index, a study of 79,000 U.S. owners and dealership experience,[8] and rated #1 in customer experience in the Luxury Institute, New York's high-income household surveys.[137] From 2002 to 2005, Lexus also topped the Top Gear Survey, "the UK's biggest independent car satisfaction survey" with over 76,000 respondents.[138] On the strength of its customer service and product satisfaction standards, Lexus enjoys one of the highest customer loyalty rates in the industry.[139] Lexus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I just got a 2009 IS 350 Monday night. It is an incredible car. I don't think I'll ever be able to use all of the different functions that it has. It is incredibly smooth. I'm just very impressed. There are minor changes in the '09 from the '08 but I decided if you are waiting to buy a brand new car for that money you might as well wait on the '09. I actually got the light grey interior and it is matched with black stitching. It looks super nice, in my opinion. They also have a greyer birds eye wood rather than the reddish/maple from before.

I bought a 350 09 Starfire Pearl with Premium Package and Nav, I'm still waiting for it, since I ordered. Let see if they can get the car by the end of October or by November. Normally take like a month or two.

About the BMW, I was in the same deal. I went to BMW dealer to buy the 335I but the AC suck, plus is not reliable like a Lexus. No matter how many upgrades you do to the Bmer in the interiors the IS look 1,000 ways better.

Good luck with yours.

When I bought my IS-350 I handwrote a quote that I said I got from another dealership. The dealer is so pressed to sell, you can get away with anything. the quote I handed them (handwritten on notebook paper)
was 2k better than I could find anywhere and I also noted the price they were going to give me on my trade in.

--- Oh and asking about which is better BMW Or IS on a IS forum is only going to return 1 answer, GET THE LEXUS!!!

I agree, get the Lexus IS350.

I like the way the BMW 3 series performs in handling, but I didn't go that route because of poor reliability. Those cars break way too easily, ranging from mechanical to electrical. I wanted to get a reliable car, a car that just keeps running like an Energizer... Plus, the interior design and quality is very impressive in the IS...

And actually, if you get the Sport Package on the IS the ride is very firm and responsive. It surprised the heck out of me cause I didn't anticipate such firm and tight handling from a Lexus...

Yep..
Go with the Lexus. I was in the same position a couple of months ago, but I ended up getting the Lexus b/c of the reliability.
My best friend drives a 328 sedan, while my other good friend will be getting his 335 convertible soon. They commented saying that my interior is nicer.

After some negotiating with the dealer a few times they ended up only giving me a crappy discount of $250 and some accessories...like a coffee mug and sweater lol, but I took whatever I could. Anyway I ended up paying $45,200 out the door. Kinda pricey but I honestly couldn't find any other new '09 models that I really liked around the $45k range (I like the sporty and luxury combo).
