I have just a few Questions about the swap. I have read alot of the Threads and alot of them are Auto to R154 swaps. I already have a w55 5spd transmission in my IS. I am just trying to figure out what exaclty I will need to purchase, W55 parts I can re-use, and parts I dont need.
I just purchased a JDM R154 Trans 10k miles on it out of a soarer with the shifter extension it also came with the Soarer shifter. I am attaching pics of the R154 I have. I currently have a W55 5spd manual Transmission in my IS300. However, the R154 transmission did not come with the 1JZ bell housing or any of the other parts needed to complete the swap. I was trying to determine seeing I already have a 5spd in my IS300 which parts I will actually need and others I do not need to purchase. If you have any suggestions or websites on where I can get any of the other parts I need. Also, if I can reuse any of my W55 parts with the R154 and if the Trans. mount and brace can be reused on R154 I heard you can modify it and make the mount and brace work. If anyone can tell me any info I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Here as list of parts I have gathered from Member LO 21 swap thread. thanks for the parts list!

tranny looks great.

essentially, its the SAME swap. except for us going from auto to manual, it has the extra (and pain in the a$$) steps of adding the clutch pedal and clutch master cylinder.

those you already have, but everything else that we needed, you will need.

1jz bellhousing, clutch setup (up to you what you choose. depends on power/comfort needs. i went with ACT 6 puck (SPRUNG!!!), which is a great clutch for both decent power and great daily drivability), flywheel, drive shaft, slave cylinder, plus all the little things that go along with these

BEing an 02 up you will need a speed sensor is the one that came with your trans a mechanical or electric
oh riiiiiight! thanks for adding that.
since i'm an '01, i didn't have to worry about the speed sensor.

you can either customize a stock IS300 driveshaft and get it balanced, or buy a 1-piece one.
a 1-piece driveshaft (like the one i have for sale from my R154 swap ;)) will hold more than double the power of a modified stock one.

sorry to bring this back.. i been looking around and could not find any info on this.

Do we need to change the transmission mount when going from W55 to R154 or is it the same.

I have an original 05 Manual IS300.

Cheers guys

You will need to fabricate a new mount or shim the existing one. THe R154 hangs 1-2" lower than the W55. When I first did the swap I grabbed some 1.5" x 4" steel box tube and made a quick shim that dropped the mount. Held together fine, but I wanted something more solid, so I picked up an aluminum bar with the dimensions I needed and milled some holes - works great. Sorry I don't have a picture. I'll try to snap one next time i'm under the car.
