After some initial difficulty installing a next generation touchscreen navi, I decided to add two small features:

First, the remote control:

This is the remote control that makes use of the small IR sensor on the upper right side of the nav screen.

Second, the voice recognition system. It's the same as what is in the LS430. Not a great system, but if you don't know the way to disable the lockout through hardware or software, it can make life a little easier while driving.
The push switch:

The mic:

And a screen shot of it in action:

Overall installation time was about half an hour.

Where did yuou get that remote?!?! Does it work without any other modifications, i.e. straight out of the box?
Actually, I got it at work. But the Toyota part number on it is 86820-53010 if you want to try to order one. I know there is a Japanese version of the remote, and it may also have the same part number.

And yes, it works without any other mods. :D

The remote control requires no re-wiring at all to work. Just 2 AAA batteries :p

Here is a pic of the voice recognition wiring harness uninstalled:

Basically, all you would need to do is plug the connector into the nav unit and it will work. All nav units are voice recognition capable, you just need the wiring.

It's the same as the LS430 VR system, so I'll try toget the pinouts when I get back from vacation next week.

I just called the dealer to ask about the part number for the remote (86820-53010) and was told the number is invalid. How did you manage to order it? And, if you don't mind, can you share the price for the remote and the harness?
Sorry to hear that. We have a few of these at work to evaluate nav systems, so they were free of charge. Maybe there is an alternate part number, I'll see what I can find out.

Yea I checked too, they told me the same thing. I have been trying to get the remote for some time now.

Unfortunately, it looks like there is no part number for the voice recognition kit. But here is the wiring to get voice recognition if anyone wants to give it a go  :

It uses the small 8 pin connector on the back of the navi ECU that is closest to the rear of the car. It looks like the switch portion would be quite easy to do (go to Radio Shack), but maybe not the microphone. It looks as if the mic a small built in pre-amp. Anyone want to give it a go? :-?
