Usability of Chrono style guages

I've had several people ask me me now if I've had problems looking at the chrono style speedometer while driving. Guess some of the car reviews said it took a little getting used to.

I dunno about you guys, but what is there to get used to? Right from my first drive, I don't think it takes me any longer to see my speed then in any other car.

yeah, I like it a lot actually
Its not any harder to look at than others and yet it looks cool

don't rely on the magazines too much.. I guess
everybody has different tastes
Car reviews can be like movie reviews - a waste of time. I remember reading one review in which the reviewer stated that the IS steering wheel was too thick and "made his hands sore" Gimme a break.

That reviewer's hand was sore from waxing his carrot.

As long as the reviewers practice favoritism, they'll be able to find things to pick on.....

That's right, car magazine reviews are great for entertainment purposes. For the real thing, try them out for yourself!
I did have to get used to reading the speedometer, but that only took about half a block. I like this dash much more than any car I have driven so far.
I believe the favorism is played toward the bimmer, although I do think that car reviewers started to realize that BMW is not doing such a great job any more. Find it funny that in the review of the new C and IS that the reviewer tries to find a way to make BMW look better when compare to these two cars, even though in many ways (performance figures) these two cars perform either as good or better. I am just getting kind of sick at how they compare car now, aren't they suppose to be neutral?
I remember reading a review somewhere about the IS, and they totally dissed the interior, but of course praised the 328. I love the 328, but come on, how can anyone pick its interior over the IS' in terms of readibility and ease-of-use?
My only comment on the speedo is I wouldn't mind if there were subtle little ticks on the circumference to mark 5's units.

I mean, I like that only every 20th MPH is actually designated with numerals, and the intervening 10's units are marked with small dots. I can easily enough determine that, say, 45MPH is right in the middle between "40" and the next dot, but an even smaller dot would make it easier. I don't think that'd make the cluster too busy, but on the other hand it might not look like the chrono thing they were going for either...
They should switch the the tach and the speedo (ala RX-7). The tach is waaay to the left and unuseable. In my RX-7, I know when to shift by either sound or the tach pointed straight up (and it's right in front of me). The IS is so quite, and the tach so inconvienent, I can't tell when to shift.

In the HyperRev book, there are replacement gauge clusters...including a few with the tach in the middle.
