Transmission STILL flaky....

609 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  dude
Today, while accelerating from a dead stop, it seemed like my IS300 got stuck in a lower gear....engine revved to about 4k, and then suddenly jerked into the next higher gear. Am I the only one with ongoing transmission problems? Did I get a lemon??? I'm tempted to take it back to the dealer, but the problem is so sporadic that they would probably say "no problem found...."

I have noticed this problem in e-shift when I down-shift into second and hit the accelerator hard. My guess is that second gear is actually low then shifts to second gear and the ECT has a hard time determining which gear it needs to be in. I am sure this has been discussed in other posts...

Thanks for the input BLUEBYU. IMHO, for close to $34k, the tranny ought to work flawlessly...like my previous vehicles that cost about half as much....

I think Lexus just needs to work the bugs out of the programming. I am sure Lexus will come out with a "patch" of some kind to fix this logic problem.

And this is precisely why I didn't sell my 2k Celica GTS. I love driving my IS (400 miles since Fri), but there are times I must heel-toe to a perfectly executed 4-3-2 downshift. Heck, no need to clutch!

I HAD THIS PROBLEM.
If you reset the ECU, it'll probably go away.
Just disconnect the negative for a few minutes and this resets the ECU. Reconnect.

Should be fine. No problems. I'm not sure what causes this problem, probably something to do with the break in period?

It's all good now though.
Just remember that an automatic is still an automatic......The computer does most of the thinking for you......If you perform any sudden moves, the computer may not be able to compensate for it, and hence your end results.

Manual transmission is fully manual.....The computer does not think for you when shifting. Therefore, only your brain at work, and you can execute exactly how you want it to be.
