Can someone explain the concept of why turning tracton control off would give you better 0-60 times? (Dry pavement)

The way I'm looking at it is... wheelspin during take off means well... no traction! Isn't the trade-off of slightly less throttle controlled by the traction control system better than the time lost by the wheels spinning?

If the traction control was tuned to allow just the optimal amount of slippage, then it would allow maximum acceleration whenever engaged.

But the Lexus system is tuned more conservatively than that. It cuts out too much power and also doesn't return to full power immediately when traction is regained.

A little bit of wheelspin is actualy good because it avoids bogging the engine down and allows for a good launch. I guess it is a matter of opinion which is better but I would prefer a little bit of traction loss when starting off the line. Though; I have found it is pretty difficult to induce any wheel spin in the IS when launching straight off line even with the TRAC disengaged anyway. Maybe the TRAC is just a little conservative and thats why most people would prefer it be in the off position when accelerating in a straight line. The IS also uses an electronic throttle system which depending on your immediate driving habits can also affect the ability to launch at a desired rate of acceleration.
