Here is the information everyone has been waiting for.

If your dealership does not know (or pretends not to know), about the update tell them to look up the following Technical Service Information Bulletin:
TSIB EG003-01

It has been officially released and available now. The update is a two part update depending on your problems, one is an engine ECU update program and the second is replacement of the TRAC ecu.

Also remember to be patient on the dealers because it just got released and many dealerships may not be prepared and may not be able to get the TRAC ecu on time if corporate gets into a back order state.

No problems, you are all welcome. just keeping everyone informed.

ledmirage: this fix is for the cars that were produced early in the production 2001 year models. It fixed some hesitation problems and traction problems (where the traction control kicks in too early during turns)

I just called Lexus in Fremont CA. Service says "there is no such thing". I didn't tell them to look up the bulletin but the guy said they are working on it and should be available in 90 days.

Whats up with customer service and satisfaction when SRT know about the bullentin but not the Lexus dealership.

FYI:

I just talked to Lexus of Seattle, and they informed me that they were ordering 2 TRAC units. One for me of course.
I'm assuming they would do the Trans ECU upgrade at the same time... they didn't say anything about bringing in all of the keys though.

I'm thrilled. My dealer called me yesterday to tell me that he was ordering a new TRAC ECU per this TSIB. I've been pretty relentless about this problem. "Transmission and shifting problems" appears on every service record since I bought it in August of 2000.

Does anyone know if this will also take care of the hard shift problem between 2nd and 3rd gear when accelerating hard? The dealer felt that this would only take care of the "hesitation" problem at take off.

yeah, I just called Lexus of Austin to schedule my 5k checkup and I mentioned the ECU upgrade. They're aware of it, but from what the mechanic told me they're not gonna go around and upgrade everyone's ECU. In other words, you have to ask for it. He told me they wouldn't do any upgrading unless people specifically complained about the problem. So be sure and ask for it or else it won't happen. Best of luck everyone.

I just spoke to my friend at a dealership and he spoke to the tech and his understanding that the fix would be for all IS's produced before February 2001 you may want to check your production date... Mine is February and I have noticed the 2nd and 3rd gear shift problem

How do you know if you have a problem? I bought mine in January. I have no clue as to whether or not my car is supposed to respond the way it does when I step on the gas. Like, early in the morning I'll turn out onto the main street leaving my house. When I press hard on the accelerator the car will not go any faster, even if I floor it. Only after I've been flooring it for about 5 seconds or so does it finally start accelerating. Is it supposed to do that?

My diagnostic specialist at JM Lexus told me he would make sure I had my fixes taken care of when I go in for my next servicing inJune. I could go there now but, for me they are far away, so I'll wait.

If anyone at your dealerships play stupid like they don't know about it, ask to speak to their diagnostic specialist. That should be a better help.

I just checked the "Owners" section of LEXUS.com and it's not on there yet, I wonder if and when they'll post it.
