I read that the estimated price of the 4000GT was around 100 grand. V8 pushing near 400 horsepower. Supposed to compete against new NSX and Porsche. I believe that was the same article in MT but I haven't heard anything past that. I've seen pictures of a prototype Toyota sports car in Best Car magazine forecasted to be released in 2003.

I read about it too, in R/T i think it one of those supercar, which we won't see it hit US soil.

It better not be another one of those freakin' "hey we just built a car that kicks ass but screw the US" supercars. I'll die if it is. And I hope this supra "replacemet" won't seriously be targeted at the $100,000+ market. I'm not really sure if a Toyota could sell in that price range unless it was extreamly low volume. I just wish they never quit with the last Supra.
I heard about this a while back. The concept pic looks real cool.
Don't forget to compete with the R35 over in japan too.
And R35 costs only about $50K, not $100K.
Actually, I think Supra is still being produced and sell in Japan.
R35? If you mean the Skyline, I thought it's currently the R34...

R35 should be out in the couple of years. Is there any car in Japan, or for that matter, in the world that can really keep up with Skyline GTR Vspec in the stock form? I just realize recently that on track performance of a Skyline R34 GTR can almost rival a McLaren F1, and should be able to kill most of the cars out there without a problem. However, in stock form it is not that good of a drag car.
If my brain serve me right, it replace the 2000GT and only a few of those hit US soil in the 70's. i think it was in the price range of a porche. but not sure.
Daniel: you're right, but remember that the NSX-S also is on par with the Skyline R34 VSpec. although its RWD..laptime is almost exact....as for straight line..NSX-S out do the R34. but the skyline is one of the most potential engine in the world and can easily pump 800hp out of its rb26dett. R34 is one of the best overall cars the world have ever seen...R35 wont be out anytime soon because the R35 will have a totally new nissan motor, i was informed... Lets not talk about the Skyline Nismo 400R though..i don't think you're ready for that. lol and yes all the car that vanished from american soil is still in production in japan..Supra, RX-7, 300zx, 3000gt, etc. by the way..skyline dont cost no $50k...theyre more than that

I thought last time someone priced the Skyline GTR V-spec in Japan the car cost around $54K? I think that's what they had in Car and Drive and Road and track before.
Is NSX-S a street car? From what I remember, it is a strip down version of the NSX, and has almost nothing in the car. Skyline on the other hand is supposely be in the luxury sports car market, and has quite a nice interior for such a high performance car.
I didn't mention the 400R because it was a limited production so I don't think it was fair to compare to corvette, viper, and most of the production cars.
BTW, I have also heard that they are putting a v8 in the R35, is this true? I hope not because RB26DETT is probably the best motor Japan had ever build for a street car. I have actually seen a 1000+hp Skyline using mostly stock components from that engine.

Heres a pic of the 2000GT that came out in the late 60s.

The Toyota 2000GT was a high-performance grand tourer that fully realized the skills of its designers and engineers through its long-nosed, balanced styling and six-cylinder, twin-cam engine. It garnered three world records and 13 international records, creating numerous legends as a high-performance car rivaling world standards.
Built upon a sturdy X-backbone frame, the 2000GT's 4-wheel independent suspension had double-wishbones front and back. The engine, a 1988cc DOHC 6-cylinder with 3 Solex carburetors, produced 150 horsepower. This could propel the car to a top speed of over 220km/h. The 2000GT also possessed exceptional durability and safety. Other features included a cross-ratio 5-speed transmission, limited slip differential, and Japan's first 4-wheel disc brakes with vacuum booster.

The cost of this car was considered ridiculous at the time. It was said to have cost over $100k given the differance between todays market and back then. This was also a Bond car in "You only live twice". Its considered the Grandfather of the Supras. The later Supras are also known as 3000GTs in Japan. The MK4 Supras are based upon the Soarer(SC300 Lexus). The new Supra will be listed as the 4000GT.

I personally prefer the S900 AB Flug kit over the S9500...just my preference though. The S900 looks way more aggresive to me.
