yes, T/C's are for auto tranny's. They'll help you launch the car better because of higher stall speed. Supposedly, on a stock IS, you'll gain .5 seconds or so in the 1/4. Usually a pretty pricey mod, but seems worth it if you have the cash..........

I have one from SRT. It does make a huge difference. While I can not speak for Suprastore's, mine chatters like a bitch. If you can stand that, it is a great mod. Approx $1500.00 installed including trans cooler.

Yea, I've heard noise can be a problem, but I mostly hear this from people who purchased the "dragon" or whatever T/C. I know one problem is that when you install a new T/C, you shouldn't use the stock bolts to put the aftermarket T/C in, you need upgraded hardware also.

Does anyone have a T/C and no noise?

no noise here and have had it in the car for little over 2 years
Which one do you have and where did you get it? If it is quiet, I would seriously consider replacing mine. Thanks

Is the noise suppose to be normal or did it start occuring after awhile?

Who knows. When I bought it I knew there was going to be a chatter and was told so by SRT prior to installation. So I knew what I was getting into when I purchased. At first it was not bad, but as time has gone on ( I purchased in March 03) it has gotten progressively worse. Originally it would only chatter at idle while in park. Once put in gear it would go away. Now it will chatter while in gear at idle (like when sitting at a stoplight). It is so bad that people ask me what is wrong with my car when they hear it. If I did not like they way it comes out of the hole so much, I would go back to stock in a minute. I have not got to that point yet, and probably would replace it with another instead of going back anyway. So if someone knows of a TQ Conv that does not chatter, I am all ears. David

I've had mine for just about 3 years. Just like softshell I had mine installed at SRT and knew it would chatter a little. The chatter is not bad with mine. As mentioned before it only does it when in park but I've been to IS meets and not one person even knew I had it until I told them. Thats with the car in park.

IMO the TC chatter is blown out of proportion and not much to base a decision over. Its like most who worry about exhaust volume and soon after the purchase love the sound and performance gains then hardly list the drone as a negative.

As far as performance goes, I have no regrets about buying one. I'm not a racer by any means but my spirited driving experiences would tell me that xenclouds post about the .5 sec improvement in the 1/4 mile is right on target. It helps the car launch so much better. The car shifts at a little higher rpms and its crisp when it does shift. Having the chances to drive my friends stock IS and comparing it to mine clearly illustrates the extra kick a TC gives the car from a stand still. Hope this info helps.
