well im torn for a bit right now between whether i should get a standalone now or later when i want more power.

TE offers a great deal with no standalone.
but then there is PFS with the Tech-3 and everything else you would need to make more power in the future.
The question is rather or not it would be wise and cheapest to get the standalone and other goodies...(headgasket) or to wait until i wanna dish out the cash for a new tranny for the engine management.

if you want higher boost and now problems do a stand alone. If no problems with the engine managment you have now fix the tranny

jarret from phr and pfs, boostlogic all went with a standalone for a reason but if TE has been doing ok with their piggy and your happy with 300-400rwhp for the rest of your life (prolly not) then go for it.

I have been on both sides of this fence...

I bought the entire turboeast emanage kit... emanage, boost sensor, harnesses, piggy fuel ecu.
With this setup my car did not "learn" and rob HP... You can effectively tune the car and it will stay tuned. The piggy ecu is essential to this setup. It clears trouble codes (as well as other things) while driving if they do occur. From my experience, this setup will work... Here are the downsides to it...
1 Cannot raise the rev limiter
2 Cannot change cams without sending the car to Turboeast
3 On an auto, the ECU loads fuel and retards timing to reduce horsepower to make the car shift... This results in a puff of smoke from the exhaust.
This is just what I have observed from my setup.

I am currently running a Tec-3 standalone that was done by PF Supercars. Here is what I have noticed.
1 Car is more driveable at partial throttle
2 Raised rev limiter gives a bigger usable "Powerband"
3 No more "puff" of smoke at shift points
All I have to say about my current setup is "good job Ray"

The downside to the standalone and all ems's for that matter is that it is only as good as the person who tunes it.

If you are not planning further upgrades ie cams, rev limiter, etc, then the piggy may be a cost effective solution for you. If you think that you may want these items in the future, then I would suggest that you spend the extra cash and do it right the first time, as it will only cost you more in the end when you decide to upgrade after purchasing the piggy...

thanks guys for the extra opinions. The standalone is within my budget, but a tranny is not.....so i plan on sticking with 33whp at least for a lil while. ;)

You need to as yourself how much power you want and also how you plan to pass an obdII inspection every year when you go standalone. Yip I said it. Good luck on the OBDII test with a standalone, that is if they do thqt in ohio, not sure. BUt here in new york they do, with the emanage ai just have to keep my car runnign before they do the test so the ecu doesnt get reset. I have been on the emanage for 6 monthes now and maek plenty of power. A Lot of people are surprised on how fast my car is and how much power I put down. Just ask ISMAN. Read my sig.. Im making 475 RWHP on a stock bottom.. no prob...
I had the money for a standalone when I started the project.. I just didnt need it with the stock bottom. I also did not loose any of the other functions in my car by doing the Piggy back .. such as trac control.. for those rainy days..I love still being able to use it. And also did you speak to Jeff at turbo east? He is more than capable of doing standalone.. he has done it many times before.. He was even brought a GS from another tuner which had a 2JZGTE swap. The other tuner couldnt get it to run on stanalone he did...

If you not aiming for over 400+ hp I think stansalone is overkill. Look into GReddy Ultimate. it suppose to be a SUPER piggy. :)
Yup definitely agree that the new GReddy Ultimate will allow for a lot more control over timing (detonation pb ;) -
Also Ohio should lose their e-check this coming december, but I'm sure something else will come back :p
