Hi guys.. A quick question:

I have the stock 17 rims on (17 x 7 I believe) my IS and I am replacing my 215/45 s with winter tires..

Now by one method or another, the tires I got from Tire Rack are the wrong size (I don't want to get into that now, I'm pretty upset considering I drove to another state (they were delivered to my parents) to get them installed only to find out they were the wrong size).. I still don't understand what happened but I will call them tomorrow first thing.

Anyway, what I got was 205/50 s .. Now the question is, can I mount the 205/50 safetly on my rims ? I talked to NTB, and they said no problem.. But I talked to another place, and they wouldn't have anything to do with it saying that you cannot SAFETLY put a NARROWER tire on your rims than the stock tires.. I will call Lexus tomorrow, but I trust you guys more than my local dealer..

So can I safetly replace my 215/45 with 205/50 ?? I really don't want to have to go through the pain in the *** of trying to return these, pay for shipping *3* times (original, return, and replacement set) if I don't have to..

Whats your advice ??

Thanks all

:pissed:

Just curious... Was that by "accident" too or did you mean to order them ?

I talked to some people in this forum before I order from TireRack. Also, I looked at TireRack web site saying that it has 2 choices, one is 215/45 and one is 205/50, some people in this forum said that it is beeter to have 205/50 since it is narrower/skinner to drive on a snow.
So did you call lexus dealer and find out the answer? pls let me know :D

OK.. I called Lexus of Danvers (these guys are great, I wish I had bought my car from them.. the next purchase is definitely theirs) in Mass, and they said the 205/50s will definitely fit, its just a matter of a different ride in H rated snow tires.. it'll be a lot softer, obviously..

But they will fit :)

Thanks a lot! That's cool, so we won't waste our $$. So, 205/50 does fit our stock rims and as u said, it is lot of softer....what's that mean of that? I think 205/50 is more skniier, is that right?
Anyways, thanks, u did aexcellent job

Winter

205/50 17 is a better size to run in the winter. The narrower tire will have the best snow and ice traction. This size will fit on anything between 5.5 and 7.5 inches. Did you place this order online? If you like you can PM me your order number and what you would like us to do and I can see about it.
