What's up y'all? First post over here. New to the forum but a veteran in the build/swap world. I'm a Euro mechanic by trade and collector of fine junk. I picked up my first IS300 a few weeks ago on Marketplace with intention to fill a sports car void in my life. (I DD an 06 Benz E320 CDI and a 19 Ford Raptor) My first 1jz swap was in 2006 to my 87 Supra, then another in 2011 to my 1990 4Runner, then another in 2019 to my 95 Cressida Needless to say, this should almost be the easiest one. My 85 Cressida is a rusty turd and the chassis cant handle the stock 1jz so ill be pulling the swap and transplanting it to the IS300. Will be keeping the A650E trans using an ECU masters parallel harness with stock ECU to run Auto Trans, HVAC, gauges and Black Series Standalone to run the engine. I haven't found much reliable info on this exact combination and keeping everything inside (except MPG gauge) working perfectly so ill try to share everything I learn here.

Link to my Cressida 1jz Build. Mx72 Cressdia wagon 1JZ build I'm going to put something in this chassis and sell it eventually, I think.

Anyway, the 02 I picked up is super clean, came with Tien Flex Z coilovers, unknown brand headers, a front strut tower brace, an intake, HKS muffler, and 2 sets of wheels (stock and is250 f-sport 8x18/ 8.5x18). I've cleaned it up a little. Replaced lower ball joints on all 4 corners. Cut the HKS cannon off and welded on the Vibrant muffler I cut off my Cressida. Also added 06+ IS350 front brakes with the 350Phi adapters. Will post updates as progress occurs and parts roll in.

HA. I wish!! The 2.7 Ecoboost decided to do the one thing I was worried it was gonna do, and started leaking coolant into it's water cooled "exhaust manifold". It needs new heads, as far as I know. I have no desire to work on it myself, so I'm just looking for a new engine all together.
I love a good build thread. You have a nice, well equipped shop to get it done. We just not gonna talk about that red all-trac celica?

Thanks! Hope to have the car swapped and daily drivable by summer.

About the Celica...I've got 2 of them. Both are 1990 All-Trac 5-speed awd. The clean looking one was purchased as a rolling shell with a Gen4 3S-GTE and zero interior. The nasty one on the right was actually running and driving but was rotting from the ground up (seats about to fall through floor). I've swapped the dash, rebuild all HVAC box,. new sound system, new carpet, reupholstered seats. It has BC coilovers, all new brakes, wheel bearings, brake and fuel lines, POR-15 all underneath. Also built the original Gen2 3S-GTE to go into the new one with a bigger turbo. I've got a lot of projects man.

Welcome!
Great looking garage. Definitely following this build as I want to go a similar route with a 1jz but sticking with the W 5-speed and keeping all the amenities.
I'm in Maryland as well. What's your strategy as far as emissions go?

Thanks! Ill likely end up with a manual swap once power goals increase. Its a slippery slope!

As for emissions, I have no set strategy. MD requires emissions on a county by county basis depending on population density. I live in Talbot county and have no emissions requirements.

I had to really look closely at the photos but holy cow… a turbo air freshener? I didn’t even know they existed. I’m amazed.

I wish I could take credit for the air freshener! Previous owner left it in there and I was just as amazed as you! I think its awesome and a good tribute to its last owner who was also an enthusiast.

Some updates. Parts are rolling in for the 1JZ swap. New set of engine mounts, torque converter seal and JZS161 Aristo fuel pump assembly arrived yesterday. Aristo TT Pump should be plenty good for 450hp and of course has the provision for a return line. From what I understand, you can swap over the level sender float from the IS200 pump assembly and the JZS161 is plug and play. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Also drove my Cressida into the my garage under 1JZ power for the last time. Pulling the JZS171 swap from my Cressida today.

Pro tip. If you have a spare driveshaft, cut the yoke off so you have "plug" for the trans output shaft. Makes for a much cleaner remove/install.

Just got a knock on my door, ECU Masters Black and 02-05 IS300 plug and play Parallel harness has arrived! What a thing of beauty. Getting real antsy now. Need to pull the stock CT15 turbo and send to Driftmotion for upgrading. They say that their upgrade is good for around 450whp. I'm thinking ill pair that with a set of 680cc injectors.

Nice Tim, I’ll be wiring mine up next week. I was too cheap to buy the patch harness lol. Ecu masters seems to be the cats pajama.

I've heard great things about ECU Masters as well! Their products certainly do look great at face value. Now I've just got learn how to tune them! Minor hurdle I hope.\
This will be the first build I've done utilizing a standalone. In the past I have just studied wiring diagrams and meshed it all together with great success. Figured this car deserves better I guess.

Got the turbo off and packaged up to send to Driftmotion. They will be boring it out, upgrading to larger steel exhaust wheel and larger billet compressor wheel.

Did full paint correction today with ceramic coating. Big fan of Ammo products. Body as some dents and dead paint in a few spots but the majority turned out amazing!

More progress on the chassis over the past couple days. I forgot to take pictures but I installed new front lower ball joints and rear lower ball joints. The rear lower is often referred to as a bushing but its technically a spherical joint that's pressed into the rear knuckle at the camber adjustment point. I used a long bolt with some spacers to push the old one out and pull the new joints in.

A view of the workspace. My attached garage at home.

Also got a box from FIGS with new steering rack bushings, 2# front caster arm bushings, and front upper ball joints. The ball joints were probably one some of the easiest ive ever had to press into place. In and out like butter. Of course the 30 ton press and OTC ball joint master kit didn't hurt.

Next up were the #2 Caster arm bushings. These were both torn, left side much worse than right. Pressed the old out and new poly bushings in.

Then steering rack bushings. Easy enough to drop the rack down. I used an air hammer to remove the old bushings on the left side. These took all but 10 minutes to R&I.

Installed new inner and outer tie rods as well. My old ones didn't have any play but one was nearly seized. I do all my own alignments so this was just a measure to help out future me.

Finally, I lowered the coilovers by 1/4" all around. Looks much better and I can still adjust most of my alignment within specs. I can get front and rear toe perfectly centered but I'm sacrificing a little camber in exchange for aesthetics. Camber ended up about -1.2* all around.

Been awhile since I've updated this thread but I've been busy with lots of side work. Needed to put my project off to keep my lift open to customers. Helps pay for all the fun stuff ya know? So I decided to remove all my door panels and re-dye the suede since it had turned purple from years of UV exposure. Turned out decent I think.

I got a package from Driftmotion with a bunch of goodies. Most importantly they upgraded my factory turbo with a billet, larger compressor wheel and a steel, larger exhaust wheel. They say it's good for 500whp. I'll be happy with that till my A650 isn't… I got that installed along with new gaskets for the turbo. Also installed the Bosch 650cc fuel injectors.

Next up was removing the stock 2JZ-GE from the IS300. This proved to be extremely easy, it took about 1.5hrs to get the engine/trans out. Took the engine mount brackets off and transferred them to the 1JZ along with new engine mounts. Removed the wiring harness from the 2JZ as well. I'll be using the 2JZ harness on the 1JZ and will explain what I had to extend and massage to make it work.

Cleaned up the engine bay of the IS300 while it was empty.

Transferred over the oil level sender from the 2JZ to the 1JZ.

Transferred the IS300 A/C compressor over to the 1JZ, boring, it all bolts up as I'm sure everybody knows already.

New belt on the 1JZ as well. 6PK-1940 is the belt size. I’m using the JSZ171 alternator since it's 170 amp, it also has a slightly larger diameter pulley.
