hi

i rebuilt my engine long story short

my car started but after a repair ..it didnt

we found out the timing was off by a tooth.
the cam gear notches were lined up but the crankshaft pulley was a lil passed tdc

my question is how far does the timing have to be off to get bent valves in your head

yes we fixed the timing issue and it started up

according to my bro it didnt sound the greatest..does it matter that the serpentine belt was connected

One tooth off either way shouldn't cause piston/valve contact.

Do a leak-down test to check.

I've been off more than one tooth and there was still no contact between the two. +1 on the leakdown test.
