here's another articleSony Ericsson's P800 To Reach First Markets Soon
STOCKHOLM (Dow Jones)--Sony Ericsson has begun shipping its P800 camera phone, a spokesman for the mobile-phone maker said Wednesday, after several months delay.
The phone should appear first in stores of the Nordic region, Italy and Hong Kong, Sony Ericsson spokesman Peter Bodor said. It won't reach other markets until early in 2003, he said.
The P800, which includes a digital camera and functions as a personal digital assistant as well as a phone, was originally due to hit the market by the end of September, but Sony Ericsson delayed the launch without explanation. It promised to have it out before Christmas.
The phone is one of several new models from Sony Ericsson that analysts say must be successful if the company, a joint venture created by combining the phone units of Telefon AB LM Ericsson (ERICY) and Sony Corp. (SNE) last year, is to reverse the slide in its market share and reach profitability.
Sony Ericsson was the world's fifth largest phone maker in the third quarter of 2002, with a market share of around 5%.
