Ok so first of all If any one ever have any transmission problem in South Florida I recomend and warn you NEVER to take you car to "Total Car Care" of south Florida, (comercial and Prospect). I'll get to the reason why in a bit.

About a month ago I had my block replaced because of a lean out. So i've been babying my new block like my prized posesion, which it is. Been changing the oil every couple 100 miles, the normal break in process. The car still has been running lean, but for reasons i havent tuned it because I havent my desired 1000 miles on the new block yet. I've been changing little things here and there sparks, coil packs, typical shit. The car was running great just still going lean out on top ( entering high boost ). Only thing ive changed since the new build were Block of course, but the only thing that would have changed anything was i went from a 1mm HG to a 2mm HG. Yes i know that changes alot, but it all would have been fixed with the tune.

So Last monday, day before new years, driving to the beach. Not beating on the car havent since the rebuild, I engage the clutch to go into 2nd and i hear kind of like a "breaking/grinding" noise. Keep in mind clutch was fully engaged smooth shift driving normaly. I go strait home, take it to the shop where I do and have my work done. Mech says well cant really tell till you drop it from the car. So im back in school no time for this. I break the news to my father, who is upset and saying i was beating on it. He now believes me. So he said ok we're going to have to take it to the tranny guy. I said well i dont really take it to any where i dont know or trust. My dad goes no dont worry he know's his stuff been in the business for 25 years this and that. I say ok i'll check it out. Wed after new years i take it over there, and it seems to be a legit place 4 or 5 lifts a whole crew of mechs nice place none the less. And in big letters TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, RACE TRANIES, RACE REAR ENDS. So im going ok seems ok they were just pulling out the tranny for me and giving to another fellow who builds the manual standard tranys. So i find out that one of the bearings in the tranny had "shifted" and had cause the third gear to break 3 teeth out of the 50 or so were missing, this is all in a W58 trans. So i give them go to fix it. Its fixed come saturday morning, was supposed to have it done and ready by sat afternoon, but the clutch guy had given us the wrong clutch, so i had to wait till monday. Monday comes along im alll happy getting my car back, couldnt sit still all day during school lol. So as soon as i get out of school i head out to the tranny shop. Get there and my cars hot, I said ok they were driving it, maybe just testing it going through the gears making sure everything worked. So im like ok is it ready to go, The mechanic goes "Yeah, but dude you have to turn your boost down" I go "excuse me how the fuck do you know where my boost is at". He doesnt say a word. He turns on the car and its got a dead fucking miss, im standing there with the worst going through my mind, i dont see any smoke and no huffing. So i go ok shut off the car maybe one of the coil packs are loose let me make sure everything is good. Try w/e an its still got this miss, so im sitting here trying to tell myself and my father thats something else it was low on gas quarter ish tank or so. I go ok maybe its running out of gas lets go get gas I go ok. mechanic goes ok let me drive i want to show you a trick, I'm going what kind of trick maybe with the new clutch? No clue so i go um ok, He's driving normaly until he gets to the main rd. as soon as he gets there He literaly slams on the fucking pedal, waste gate opens up, gage reading 14 pounds just shy of its 16 pounds which its set to. Rev's up to the redline power shift to second. This is all within seconds. As soon as I can i start yelling at the top my lungs like wtf are you doing, im in the passenger seat my dad in the back. My dads going crazy, im going crazy, and this guy is sitting here with a smirk on his face having fun. We go to the gas station, trying to calm my dad down A 200 pound short tempered mexican guy. And the mech has the balls to come up to me and tell to calm my father down. I go dude are you fucking kidding me do you realise what you just fucking did. So the guy gets back in the car, sobbing, could tell he was nervous. And I was going if he did this with me, imagine what he did by him self. Keep in mind this all happened with about two miles from shop to gas station. So i drive back, my dad calls up the owner a friend of my fathers. He comes and meets us at the shop right away he could tell there was something wrong. Smoke coming from underneath the hood directly from the turbo. So the owners like o i've had problems with him and this kind of problem before, but hes been honest with me about. So he calls the guy over asks the guy " did you get on this car" and he goes "NO sir i did not" right then and there i want to deck the mother fucker in the face. So the owner is going well i didnt drive i wasnt there. I reply in but yeah i and my father were. And he did see the car from before any work was done and he even said him self yeah i didnt see any smoke when you got here, and i drove about 20 minutes when we just drove about 2 minutes and its already smoking. Then he was saying that i had given a car on the line of breaking. And all this BS, so my dads for two hours is still yelling in everyones faces and i guess the owner just got tired and snapped. Says to my father " listen you piece of shit get out of my fucking face, my shop. Before we have to have an ambulance come and get you" my dad takes this personaly and goes even more crazy lol. Any ways cops show up, no one broke any laws just alot of ugly words were thrown at each other. So this guy is claiming that we gave him an already "broken" car and were just "cheap mexicans trying to get something for free". So he goes get out of the shop you dont owe me the 300 dollars, or the 600 dollars you owe the tranny guy ill take care of it. So at the end of the night i have a 1000 dollars worth of tranny work for free but 6000 dollars worth of motor work. Besides the fact i just had the car out of service the last 4 months and just hit my 1000 mark like a week ago lol.

So if any one has a GTE block for sale or any recomendations that can help i'd really appreciate it thanks guys and gals!

wow dude that really sucks man, that is always my main concern, whenever i drop of my car at a body shop or tranny shop, im always thinking they gonna go out for a joy ride and rip it, and i bet after the tranny was fixed they didn't warm up the car and just went out and ripped it.... but man hope everything works out. GL, plus he knew he was at fault so thats why he gave the tranny shit for free.

Avoid shops like the plague. I'm sorry but DIY goes a long way; many case and point over the last few months too. Sorry for your luck...terrible :(

When you take a boosted car to a shop, always turn off the B/C! I go into the software and engage 'Valet' mode or set the rev limit to 3K or something. There are ways to prevent them from ripping on your car. You should have taken it to a tuner shop anyway, not some ripoff tranny shop! You paid $6K for a motor! You can do much better than that.

I find it very incredible and almost hard to believe that one, you let the guy drive to the gas station and two, he actually ripped it with you in the car. I could see him ripping it when the car was just in his possession, but to do it with the owner in the car is almost unbelievable. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm by no means saying you are making up this story. It is just....interesting, to say the least.

But no matter how it happened, I agree with everything tsop said.

Wow dude i cant believe this. People should set a low rev limiter when taking their car to a shop.

I hope you guys take legal actions against these morons.

Take pics of your odometer right in front of the people you are dropping it off at. That way you have proof that they have driven the car.

Yeah I try man, but high school doesnt help end neither does the knowledge of what I know. Building and DIY's are what im about, but if I think its over my head, and im by my self not a chance im going to attempt it. Know doubt when ever I'm puzzeled or stuck on a subject, I can always count on the guys on this forum to help me out thanks to all. Plus I Might make things worse. Yes I know you need to learn from your mistakes. And I have leaned 1.) turn your boost down before giving it to anyone no matter who and 2.) try your hadest to DIY.

Yeah, I forgot to mention. The smoke coming from the turbo was from my return line. It was loose, leaking oil on turbo causing the smoke. So today I did the compresion and my # 6 has no compression. So I'm taking it from there.

And yes, I know Josh never had problems with the car it all started with my stupid actions in the begining. I do believe there is a simple problem with fuel, either its an injector, fuel pump I dont know. I was planning on finding this out the day before this all happened. And it does need a tune, from there I believe this car will be the most reliable out there no doubt!

Damn that sucks. Like everyone said, you should have turned off the boost controller. But even then that's no guarentee since the mechanic could always turn it back up. One thing everyone should know of or ask their turner about is a boost fuel cutoff. Pretty much all standalones have this. Before you bring the car to the shop, enable the cutoff at lets say 7 lbs. If they boost over 7 lbs the fuel just gets cut off. Another thing I like to do is enable my rev limiter to around 4000 RPM too.

A few questions:
1) Was your car tuned after the rebuild?
2) If it was not tuned or it had the tune from before, why did you not tune it after? I ask this because the tune you had before already blew a motor in the past and the problem still existed.
3) What engine management are you using?
4) Why did your motor blow at only 14PSI boost even if the mechanic boosted it? I understand that it was a newly built motor, but that does not mean that it will blowup just because you get on it. I have built many many motors and taken each and every one of them to max boost within the first 100 miles and never had a problem.

If you had an inherent problem and did not get it fixed in the first place then you cannot really blame anybody but yourself. I know your situation sucks but that is unfortunately the truth. If it was a car we did I would not allow a car to leave the shop unless I knew it would run fine even when you flogged the shit out of it.

You learned first hand why you cannot count on any one but yourself and select individuals. If any thing, I think your experience(s) should motivate you to learn as much as you can and start working on your own car(s). What better time; theres no where to go but UP...this stuff is far from rocket science...its semi-rewarding and also saves money.

I learned the hard way when I was 16 from a car stereo shop. Ever since then I've been DIY with any thing and every thing possible.

Good luck to you.
