9039For some time now, we have been following the exploits of Andrew and Andy Wojteczko's Auto Analyser Racing in the Ontario Touring GT and Speed World Challenge Series. Now word comes to us that Tim Nickel, Owner / Driver / Manager / Public Relations of Nickel Motorsports has tossed his hat into the racing ring and will be fielding his Lexus IS300 in the U.S. Touring Car Championship.

It's interesting how Lexus IS300 racers live on and on and just won't die. As the first question of our ongoing interview with Auto Analyser Racing's Andrew Wojteczko notes, the AAR IS300's were purchased from Tim Pappas and Team FBR/Trans Sport Racing. And now, as my.IS member Squareback correctly deduced, the Nickel Motorsports IS300 is indeed the very same car that my.IS member Derekb's raced to motorsports and autocross glory, and was the subject of a Grassroots Motorsports magazine article.

Initially, Tim's fledgling effort will concentrate on races near his Central California base (which are held at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma and Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca/Monterey), and he is currently looking for people interested in becoming volunteer crew members, especially with experience in engine tuning/clutch-tranny/ and set up people to work with current but inexperienced crew. Also in the works is a side trip to Las Vegas' famous SEMA show to display his Lexus IS300 racer.

The U.S. Touring Car Championship is reminiscent of the British Touring Car Championship and far more deserving of the "stock car" name than NASCRAP...er...NASCAR. A list of eligible cars finds just about every foreign or domestic compact sedan (and even some mid-sizers) with a sporting/enthusiast bent, so it's definitely competitive.

To find out more, visit the Nickel Motorsports site, the U.S. Touring Car Championship site or a General Discussion thread where Tim Nickel (who also happens to be my.IS member wsracer) first told us of his ambitious dream.
