that’s really hot, literally. Sounds like you definitely needed bigger, beefier brakes. Have you looked into brake cooling as well? For what it’s worth, I’m not a fan of the stock brakes. I can get about a week of good braking action before everything turns to mush again. I think the brake lines are just too close to my turbo and the fluid is overheating rapidly. Brake feel even with fresh brake fluid is meh.

I don’t think this applies to the OP though. It sounds like he wants bigger brakes for the sake of having big brakes. Not my place to judge how people spend their money that’s for sure.
I still have the backing plate and the fog vent in the bumper is functional. I might add some ducting into the bumper but yeah... I race it hard. I lived in the mountains of Washington so most nights were spent driving hard. I didn't even want bigger brakes but I feel I have to or switch to a less aggressive pad. What kinda lines are you running? Stock abs routine? I would try some of that gold heat wrap and high heat hose protector over that. What fluid are you using I need to change mine out and curious if anyone has any experience with one over the other or if all dot 4 is pretty similar.

I’m running stainless lines up front but stock lines in the rear. I’m also running stock pads up front but hawk HPS pads in the rear. That gives me more rear balance for at least a bit. It drops my braking distance from 60mph under full ABS by ~7-10ft. (I don’t actually recommend doing this since I don’t know how it’ll behave when it gets hot)

Yeah, heat shielding sounds good. The turbo heat also escapes directly above where those lines are as well. I probably have to cut the hood plus make heat shields to shield the brake lines. Not a huge priority for me since the car won’t see track or auto cross duties. Even canyon runs are kept easy now. (Definitely didn’t learn that the hard way)

The fog vents are definitely a good place to pull fresh air. I don’t think the vents have a purpose other than possibly cooling the fog light housings. It’s a direct shot to where the brakes are.
I see the Supra Bois with brackets to take brembo 17z calipers and late model ISF rotors, looks super bitchin

It's made for the is300 as well. Not sure one really needs that much braking for a 3k lb car though most of us don't drive rocket ships.
Why are people not about big brake kits here? The stock calipers, especially the rear are ugly truck spec garbage; and you clearly never have been on a road course in a 4 door car with an iron block inline 6 except for perhaps a car show parade lap if you think braking upgrades are pointless.

I enjoyed my BBK from Figs. But the original post was specifically about swapping LS400 brakes on.

Most people here do not seriously track their car, some do but most don't because it's a rwd luxury sedan. Most people just want a peppy well-balanced car. I have road coursed my car several times on stock-size brakes and have had no issues. Of course you can always try and brake faster but then you become limited by front tire grip. My stock-sized front brakes will over power my tires even at 20psi.
