So, my dealership license plate frames were taken off when I got my Black 250 detailed. I decided to go naked, so to speak, until I find a different pair. I'm wondering what people think would look best for my black car. Plain chrome, chrome with the word Lexus, plain black, brushed aluminium look, no frames, etc?. I'm kind of thinking chrome of some sort but not 100% sold on it yet.

Thanks

haha joking aside.. to be honest its hard to get a 'tasteful' license plate frame... might as well just leave it 'naked'...

or you could be crazy and drop 50 bucks on a scrolling text license plate frame!!!

Perfect when you just want to say "Back off *sshole" to tailgaters ... ;)

Normally I'm not opposed to naked plates. I notice that the plate brackets or whatever only have two holes. The plates look strange with the bottom holes showing. Not sure I'm liking what I see at Can Tire. Trying to find an online place located in Canada is not easy. I have found some in the states, Plain or Named, but then I need to currency exchange and pay for shipping to Canada, etc.

I just need to decide what I want but I can't figure out what would look best.

Can you remove the Dealership info from the plate frame by sanding it off, or spray paint with the same colour to cover the dealer's name? (You can then even apply your signature or whatever you desired over the now blank spot(s). :) )

I have nothing against bare plates either. On my car I actually have a tinted licence plate frame cover mounted on the BACK of the plate. For those wondering why... it's just to put something between the metal plate and the oh-so soft paint on the trunk. You still end up with a tinted ridge around the edge of the plate.

my favorite is the simple black TRD frame availible at any toyota or lexus dealership for 5 bucks...

i bought it at the dealership, it was sitting in the glass display case, its the black plastic TRD frame and its tagged at 3.99 canadian even.... thats insane if your seeing them for $20bucks, very weird...

I found an inexpensive plain plastic black frame with thick borders that really cuts down on the amount of white space visible, and makes the front plate look more like those elongated narrow rectangles from Europe:

It looks nice on an all-black car. I'm trying to convince my wife to put one on her IS, but I think she's happy with her [logo'd] dealership frame.

You should tell us which dealership you went to. Or pick some up for peeps who'd like one. Anyone got pics of the TRD black frame?

Also, I grabbed a couple of blank black plastic frames off ebay. Was going to put my own vinyl logos on them, butwas surprised to find that it won't sandwich between the license plate and clear cover I have. Basically the black plastic frame is the same size as the clear frame (black plastic doesn't come with a clear part. ie. can put your arm right through)

^ TRD frames can be had at woodhaven lexus or sunshine toyota in Winnipeg for $5, i can grab someone a frame if they want next time i'm in for service...

^ probably but then i have to get someone to phtoshop out my license number as i see everyone does that around here, but i'll try, its not a fancy frame, its black plastic with a big silver/white TRD logo at the top center of the frame and then accross the bottom it reads Toyota Racing Development in their style of letter, simple...

It's not that big of a deal to blur out a licence plate pic... I can do it for you if you want.

I don't know about TO, but here in Ottawa, blue/yellow license plate covers are a big NO NO for cops. My friend got a 110$ tickets for it.

I had the tinted covers, and got a 48hours fix-it ticket. I was lucky as opposed to my friend. So now I only have clear plate covers.

I just bought the TRD frame ($13 for two).
Unfortunately, the upper frame (with BIG red TRD letters) covers too much of registration tag and state name. I'm not sure if that's legal (my logic dictates that covering vital information shouldn't be), but it DOES look awkward to have state name partially covered and the tag (year and month) almost covered. Love the design, but I ended up returning it immediately.
I'm planning to get a pair of black frames and spray painting them with single diagonal red stripes (metallic spray paint for 5 bucks).

Coloured licence plate covers are illegal here in Toronto as well... anything that impairs the ability to see the licence plate is illegal. In all honesty I think this is one of those things that cops use to harrass you. Like they'll let it go unless they are purposely looking for something to ticket you on.

I must admit tho... a blue licence plate cover on a blue IS300 looks really nice.
