Damn, what's with the fatal error messages!! I spent 30minutes doing a write up and bamn! It's gone!... It's happening often lately. Oh well, I guess I'm gonna have to do the short version of this write up. I'm just too tired and need to sleep. Well anyways, here it goes...

Hello fellow members. Well, looks like it's about time for a review. It almost end of the year and end of season. Time to look back on this year and plan for next. As most of you guys know either from .net write ups/reviews or from magazine features, my previous set up. So I won't re-type what most of you guys know, and just list some of the basics for comparison sake. Previous set up Stage 4 but now Stage 3: T-62-1 Turbo, lowered 9.4 CR, FMIC rated 503whp at 22psi with C16 and 561whp with a small 35 shot and a internally built stock auto tranny.

Well, those who are in the state of bliss from falling for the boost syndrome (including myself) know how easy it is to raise the boost and quench for more power :p . Well, it didn't take long to find out how long our stock internals would last boosting 450whp-500whp daily. After driving 6k miles of hard spirited driving and being high on boost adrenaline simultaneously, my #1 cylinder seal gave. Oh well, time for upgrade..

Now, I wanted to go to the next level or maybe few steps more. Just rebuilding wasn't good enough. Heck, I'm already half way there, and I wasn't going to settle for the same. So there was where this insanity went full blown and there was no turning back. No cutting corners and doing it the easy way. It was time to take it to the ultimate level. Stage 4 extreme: JE Pistons, Crower Rods, Crower Springs, Ti Retainers, Bearing, Total Seal, ARP Studs/Bolts, 272 HKS Cams (yes, plural), HKS Cam Gears (yes, plural again), dual Walbro intank fuel pump, Dual Blitz BOVs (seems there's a pattern of pairs..)fully balanced to easily handle 8k rpm redline, MDS Ignition, 850cc injectors, SRT custom fuel rail, Turbonetics T-76 turbo, huge (litterally) Spearco FMIC, Cusco Oil Catch Can, FPR, and the icing on the cake, a custom NX direct port system. All these harware being directed in sympony by the Haltech E6K along with additional Blitz DC gauges. Oh, btw, one of a kind custom fabbed 70mm throttle body. It flows approx. 70-80% more air then our stock T/B, and best of all no speed limiter :).

Goal: 1,000whp or Bust !

Bust....Well, like all goals, there's some temporary drawbacks. Our bullet proof built tranny that I've tortured during my previous set up finally showed signs of what it's limit is. On the dyno, raising up the boost past 600whp level showed sign of slipping  . I didn't want to push the tranny any further due to the fact that I still wanted to enjoy the car before this winter takes full effect. So we stopped at 21.5psi on race gas (dyno chart will follow within next few days). As for the goal, no I don't give up that easily. It's dissapointing when you build the engine to achieve such goal and let a tranny limit it's path to 1k whp level. As for the auto tranny, the replacement tranny is already sourced and is scheduled in the very near cold future ;) before next season. Goal here we come.

As for my current set up, well.. the car is much smoother then my previous T-62-1 set up. The power comes on smooth and doesn't stop until it's 8k redline. It's so smooth that unless you look down on your speedo, you don't realize how hard and fast it's pulling. The car runs beautifully. For 850cc injectors with 272 HKS Cams, it idles and purls like Fi Fi the cat. Throttle response is on the dot (tks to the custom T/B unit). The shifting is on the dot, although you have to gate shift for high spiirited driving/racing. The reason being is that due to the raised 8k rpm red line, if you leave it at "D", the ecu will shift at 6,200rpm (stock auto shift points) thus limiting your power band.

It is a great feeling knowing that you have 450-500whp daily on pump gas and that you're not even pushing your car at just 17-19psi. This fact just gives me the feeling of ....reassurrance, relaxatioin, or confidence that your boosted beast is just given some light workout at 450-500whp... .

So, this past weekend, the weather in the Nothe East Tri-State area was nice (50's) for this time of the year, and when my wife asked my to go buy some fast food (Burger King  ), I left with the Lex. Well, let's just say I didn't get back for an hour and my wife was pissed, but all I can show on my face was a big smile :D . While out on my quest for the ultimate char broiled Whopper, I ran into a C5 Vette :p . I don't know what the problem was with this guy, whether he was an import car hater or my coffee can exhaust spitting fumes, but he was on my bumper (literally) :x . As soon as traffic cleared on this 3 lane hwy, he makes his move thinking I will eat his V8 exhaust fumes... :shame: ....not even close  . As soon as he made his move, I down shifted (gate shift) to 3rd and within seconds, I walked him like a dog out for his pupu walk. I slowed down and he pulls up to me and rolls down the window the hell out "Let's go again!". So I gave him a hand signal "A OK" , and he takes off. I was already in 3rd gear, and it wasn't even close. So after I passed him, I slowed down, then passed him, then slowed down  all the way up to 150mph. I held 3rd gear up to 7,800rpm and gate shifted to 4th and it was instantaneous. Also at 4th after the up shift, it was at perfect boost level for 4th gear boost pull (I luv autos for this). To my surprise, he was cool and gave a thumbs up eventhough everytime I was passing him, I had a smile on my face saying "you have no chance, caught you again" look like a cat playing with a mouse. After the thumbs up, I reallized that the food is cold and my wife will be pissed, but I just couldn't stop smiling from the joy of boosting. Time just flies when your out having fun  .

I hope my post gave some info. to those considering boost, especially with the autos. Our stock auto built internally should be fine up to 600whp. Oh btw, one more thing, if you plan to go boost, you must accept the good and the bad consequences that may exist in search for boost. If you can accept that, you will enjoy much much more. Oh well, time for me to go bed. Good night everyone.

Oh forgot to add a big thanks to Mo and the SRT staff, you guys have taken care of my LEX like it's your own, and have all the confidence in you guys to take it to the next levels. Let history show, who always stepped up to take our cars to the next levels and willing to struggle with the hits and misses of uncharted territories. Be a leader not a follower. That takes guts and I gotta give respect where respect is deserved. Thanks again guys and can't wait for next year :).

well congrats and can't wait to see the post " 1000rwhp quest conquered"!

great post!

i can totally relate to not going back to the dyno over and over again, as soemtimes you just want to drive the car and enjoy it! getting to drive it for 2 weeks and then breaking shit gets real old, real quick

so what the are the plans for the new transmission? american parts, custom supra trans ... whats up? you don't have to go into detail, but a little closure/hint would be cool ;)

congrats chucky! I can't wait until your car is "done." You definitely have a lex truly worthy of emulating; the thing is the epitome of power, handling, and beauty. Ya heard?!

p.s.- don't fuck with me on the phone, it hurts my feelings

Good morning everyone, and tks for the compliments. I was so tired yesterday typing the write up. I was so mad because I wrote a detailed segments of my car for this year and pressed "submit" and DOH! :( "Fatal Error". I was going to just say ah forget it, but I'm sure there are those wondering what's going with my car, and didn't want any inaccurate myths about the car rolling around on the .net.

As for next year, there will be some changes. Externally, some minor fender work to accomodate new shoes (2 sets  ). Interior wise, a 6pt custom roll cage with swing outs. As for the engine and tranny, well there will be a bit more head work done to the car. Deciding the tranny was the hard part. I could have gone for a heavy duty race auto tranny such as a "Glider" or a 3 spd SP tranny, that would possibly put me in 9's (low 10s given), but I opted for a v160. The reason being is that I wanted an all around car, not just drag car, and the 6spd will give me more options in keeping my car road track worthy (imagine doint an autoX in a Glider ?  ). Not cutting corners, for those who are hardcore Supra peeps (GTE.. :) ), I've already sourced a TILTON flywheel and clutch assembly for the v160, and the drive shaft. Now only thing left to get is the TT rear, half shaft, TRD LSD, clutch pedal assembly, gear linkage and short shifter with boot. I've already have a set date with Mo's busy schedule during winter for this transformation. There will be another write sometime beginning of next year folks. Until then, happy holidays and peace to all our Soldiers overseas risking their lives during the holidays. As for the Whopper, well it never tastes good when you "nuke" it  .

When this happens, hit the back button on your browser. I do that and all the data is still there. Copy it and try again (use paste is needed again). If your using AOL...

I saw this while I was at the shop a while ago and I R-E-A-L-L-Y liked it. I love CNC machined parts. It looks so tight/sharp/badass/ja-bobo...whatever you want to call it...and adds a huge performance gain. 2 for 1 deal.

  , I got the order wrong for my wife anyways (no onions & mayo) .

Yeah, previously, the stock t/b was a bottle neck. Mo fabbed this custom t/b and the car just flows and flows, smoooth yet power!. It was great going over the speed limiter also :p . That Vette thought I would top off at 143mph, hehehe :shame: nope :D . There will be new pics of the car with all the above hardware and more within several weeks at your news stands  .

Charles, I learned that if you are going to post a lengthy thread.... I suggest that you type it up in Notepad and then copy/paste it into IS300.net submit form for security sake :) this way if it craps out during the upload, you can revert back to a saved copy.

Glad to see you actually driving that car finally. seems to me that you only get to drive the car in Novembers? :) ahaha remember last November at Fizz? Now that was a good ride! Terrible shame that I was in Boston this past weekend. I woulda love to meet up with you like we been planning for months. I was assisting in some Lexsurgery, and I do believe that we have a new beast prowling around with BDR's fingerprints all over it :) Much thanks for your advice, it is always welcome. Ur a stand up guy... I always respect that and tip my hat to you! good luck bruh, and congrats!

Nice update Charles...though I was hoping for 1k+ before the end of the year. :-? Hope I can get back to the shop sometime to see this new TB, it sounds awsome.

I thought your wife would have learned by now what happens when you and your lex get some alone time...I know my g/f has learned to subdue her jealousy.

Congrats man and good reading btw.......As for the winter....It's always a spring/summer/fall, of getting things ironed out and enjoying the car a lil to only re-do or change things in the winter and start the project over..... :)

As for the TILTON.....I'm sure you'll love it.....I do :D ...Word to the wise I would get the heavier flywheel....I have the lighter one and it's a lil bit harder on the daily driving then the heavier one(so I hear).....Good Luck with everthing

Tks Dan, yeah the 12lb flywheel is much much easier on your left leg for NYC driving, and you won't loose too much parasitic hp from the heavier flywheel. So, you still on your 1st plate or have you gone to the 2nd replacement plate yet?
