Got a week old loaded IS300. I noticed the squeaky noise coming from the dash tonight. Had a headache so i had the music off. Everytime i went over a bump and turn the wheel a bit, it seems to make that squeaky sound. It almost sounded as if the leather on the steering wheel was rubbing up against something. I heard other people say it was the sunroof but it didn't appear to be coming from there. Has anybody been able to resolve this?

The car is so dam quiet otherwise, most cars you wouldn't even be able to hear the squeaks b/c they're so dam loud.

Toronto: You;re talink about rattling/vibration sounds coming from the dash board?

If so, My IS200 has rattling/vibration sounds also coming from somewhere near the front passenger seat. Some people are saying that there's something loose where the SRS bad resides. I really don't know. Some people actually got it fixed when they got their service done.

My complimentary 10k service is coming to a near. I will tell them my problems when go in for the service

They don't really seem like vibrations. More like a high pitched squeak resulting from two things rubbing together. I thought maybe the steering column was rubbing against the leather. Was going to grease it myself. Or it could be something inside the instrument panel which would be much more complicated. Only happens going over bumps. Ofcourse I usually have the music on so I don't notice it. But a Lexus should be squeaking - not even cheap American cars do that

I had a squeak which I finally determined to be coming from the housing around the driver-side air vent. I had the dealer look at it when I brought the car in for the 1K check up. They confirmed that they heard it too, and put some felt in between the vent and the dash, and now it doesn't squeak.

i hear that time to time also... i think it may be because the car is still so new and i think chassis flex has something to do with it...

Yah - I was thinking the same thing. Car needs to loosen up, but then again, it is a Lexus and it shouldn't be squeaking like that. None of my other cheap cars ever squeaked like that. I'm going to have it checked out at my 1000 service, but if it was something simple like a little grease, I'd do it myself. Have no time to chase the dealer in the meantime. Gotta another few weeks before i'm due.

I also have squeaky dash. Ray Catena Lexus attempted to remedy the situation twice, but failed.

The first time they stated that the whole center console was misaligned so they took the console out and put it back in correctly I guess. Still sqeaks.

The 2nd time, my dad stated that it sounds like its coming from the passenger side air back compartment, when he was sitting in the passenger seat obviously. They service men duplicated it and stated that they put some insulant, but something still squeaks.

The wierd thing about this squeaking is that its intermittent. It doesn't occur all the time, which I feel is more annoying than it occuring all the time because if it occurs all the time, one can determine the source of the problem easier I think. I think the dash squeaking is dependent on the temperature of the dash/console and the inside of the car. I have to get my oil changed and a ding removed in the next few weeks. I'll have them look at it again then.

I saw in another post somewhere that if the hvac system is off, then they didn't hear the squeaks. If the hvac was on and air was flowing, they heard the squeaks. Haven't tested that theory on mine yet. Will try it tomorrow.

Keep me posted on yours. Thanks.

I have squeaking coming from passenger's side. It is caused by Air vent/filter being located behind glove box. Will take a look at it when get a chance.

Easy test: turn off air vent.

I got mine at Scarborough Toyota/Lexus. If you are interested - go see Raphael, he'll take care of you.

I'm just cheesed with the squeaky dash and rear speaker problem. Not the dealers fault - yet. If they cannot fix it when I take it in i'll be sour.

Raphael is good, he'll give you a couple g's off MSRP with no haggling.

I just drove home from work and really noticed the squeaks. I determined that is was coming from the drivers side - definitely not the sunroof or passenger side. If I pushed on the dash glass, it seemed to go away. Should be an easy fix the dealer (i hope). The sound was there the whole way home, had nothing to do with ventilation being on or the car being cold etc.

Anybody else have the same variation of this problem?

Have you had it checked out by the dealer yet? I'm going to get mine checked at my 1k checkup. But i fear that they won't be able to reproduce and fix the dam thing. The car is fantastic other then this one dumb thing.

It is amazing that so many people have a squeaky dash. You'd never think a Lexus would have such a problem. Hell even my older crap cars never had that problem - but then again, they were so loud inside.

I guess b/c the Lexus is so quiet & smooth it is easy to notice the squeaks.

Never heard the squeaks when I used to have a Celica or Accord. I brought my car in for the speakers and they pulled a good ole "We didn't hear anything so didn't fix it, just don't turn it up as loud." I noticed that they had the bass all the way down to 0. Golly gee, thanks alot.
I will tell them about the squeaky dash for my 5000 service. The noise is constant- kinda annoying- so hope they don't pull that "I don't hear anything" crap on me again.

Update: a year later.....

I think I fixed my squeak or got rid of it at least. The squeak definitely is due the ambient temperature. When the cabin and outside is ~60-70 degrees F. The dash creaks. The creak is somewhere around the passenger side area. I noticed that the far right hand corner of the dash is NOT securely seated. I can push it up and down. When the corner is depressed all the way I can't force a squeak out of the dash. So I tried to find some contraption to fit into that gap. I had nothing at home I could think of. The next day at work, I was setting up a few brocade fiber switches and cisco blades. Then I noticed something in my hand that would fit perfectly.

These are SC protectors for GBIC's and the sort. They fit perfectly.

I've had this in my car for about a week in these temps and I haven't a creak since! I'm going to have my dealership try to make the corner stay in permanently without that piece of rubber. I'm not too fond of the idea of putting pressure against the windshield.

I don't know where to buy these seperately, but I'm pretty sure one can use erasers though.

Sounds like you fixed it

Sounds like you found out your problem...but i had a similar thing happen when i got my 02 new. it was the seatbelt anchor mounted to right side on the drivers seat (between the seat and the armrest), all it took was a bit of WD40 and it never squeaked again. probably not your problem though.
