Just got a new MOMO knob with matching leather boot and I wanted to install it today. Can someone give me some tips on what's the best way to remove the stock leather boot? I'm guessing once I remove the stock boot, the new one will be easy to figure out.

Thanks for the help.

Hmm. I was told that you cannot change the shift boot since it is part of the metal ring surrounding the shifter...

Nah...I've seen pics of more than one member that's done it before. I just can't remember who they were!

the "metal" ring isn't metal at all, just chromed plastic.

Here's the info i pm'd to crainiac when he pm'd me, for the rest of all y'all's information:

I said:
Actually, its not tooooo hard.

The whole console area where the boot is "unsnaps" pretty easy.
sitting in the drivers seat, first, unscrew the shift knob. then grab the bottom edge of the boot, closest to the rear of the car, and pull up. that whole section with the boot, ashtray, lighter should pop up. unplug the lighter, light to the ashtray, etc. and the whole boot section can come right out. the silver ring with the boot on it unsnaps from the whole console section in a few places. that should get you the boot, with the chrome plastic ring as one peice, the console as another.

the plastic ring on the boot is actually 2 pieces, one on the outside of the boot, one on the inside, snapped togehter, unsnap those. the inner plastic ring is glued to the boot, so you'll have to peel that apart.

once you get them apart, place the inner plastic ring inside your new boot, and push it up as far as it goes. snap the outer ring over the inner ring, snap the whole boot assembly back into the console, plug the power cables back in, snap the console back in, screw the knob on.

if the knob and boot screw together (like the momo ones i have), then you have to do the reassembly part a little differently. you have to put the console/boot back almost on, but not snapped into place. put the knob on, screw it down how you want it, then screw the boot onto the knob. then snap the boot back into the console, plug the power cables back in, and snap the console back down.

it sounds a little complicated, but it goes pretty quick.
