This is my attempt at pointing new members in the correct direction when the "boosted bug" bites them.

I created an Excel sheet called the "Forced Induction Data Sheet". This is a listing of vendors/tuners who offer a supercharger or turbo kit for the IS300. It provides company names, websites, contact information, basic kit information and pricing. As these vendors are always updating their kits and pricing, it may not reflect a vendors most current pricing or kit information. It is to be used only as a guide that provides a general overview of forced induction (F/I) options available.

Here is the thread that offers background on the creation of the "Forced Induction Data Sheet"...

I created a "Manual Transmission Flow Diagram" to show the suggested upgrade path when adding forced induction to a manual IS300. This is to be used as a general guide.

Here is the thread that offers background on the creation of the flow chart...

Here is the flow chart...

awesome writeup man.

so from the "trials and tribulations" post, and a little over a year later, do you still feel this way?

----------------
Summary
My overall F/I experience would be rated at a 4 (10 being the best). When I started down this path, I guess I expected more. When you spend a similar dollar amount for a turbo as some folks do for a new car...I expected this from all tuners...
--------------

since these companies have been around much longer, do you suppose that a lot of these earlier problems (piston problems, spark plug problems, cels, etc) have now been fixed due to upgraded management systems, and other tuning adjustments?

is3finallymd stated in the same post this: "Knowing that the new GTE blocks suck and need to be intensely checked for possible failures and goodluck to those who go after the toyota warranty." Is this true that the *new* GTE blocks suck? has anyone else had problems with this?

i don't have anywhere near enough money to do a turbo setup, but it's not completely out of the question a year or two from now. for now, i'm strapped enough for cash trying to do N/A mods and suspension stuff.

I'm going to guess I wrote the above? I cannot remember...lol.

Over the last year, my boost experience has been as low as me saying "I hope my car is in an accident and is totaled". Today, my rating is closer to an 8.

haha, yes, that was a quote from you. i'm glad that the experience has gotten better for you now. you gotta let me take a ride in your car sometime.

when we did the install party at your place a couple of months ago, i recall that you had gotten your car back from SRT after the haltech upgrade, and you were tinkering with your boost controller. how did all of that tie together in the end?

Could you add a NCARB approved column to your chart. I believe that there isn't one yet, but we can always hope (what ever happened to XS Engineerings kit?)

No. The IS will no longer exist by the time any kit is CARB approved. There must be a good reason why there are no such kits...he, he, he... :)

It's not that they "suck" persay... It's more or less that you'd be exceedingly prudent to have the block stripped down, inspected, cleaned up, and clearanced prior to install. In terms of a good number of Supra owners catching the short end of the stick on short blocks failing in the first 5-2000 miles, yes, a few have sucked. The problem lies more in trusting someone else to do your assembly work that you can't speak to in person/trust... Personally, the only thing I'd "slap in" would be a prerun, tested, warrantied crate motor - Even then, I'd still likely have it inspected thoroughly... New parts are just too much damned money to risk it. *Shrug*

What are some of the popular choices for aftermarket clutch ??

and are there different choices for the R154 transmission?

I like to shop at HPF. Look at their selection. It will give you a good idea of what is available and the price range.

www.horsepowerfreaks.com

Do a search for "R154" + the screen name "myis300". That will answer many of your R154 questions.
