14976Lexus has been quite coy regarding the Lexus IS F Racing Concept which just made its debut at the 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon. Even Lexus staffers in the United States are in the dark regarding what the carmaker's ultimate plans for this monster are. Let's not forget how, in its quest for information, the WorldCarFans website wrote a story that was ridiculously laughable in its misinformation, complete with photoshopped pictures of the stillborn Team Lexus ALMS GT2 sedans that didn't even bother to remove Chuck Goldsborough's name from them. Call it the automotive equivalent of the Weekly World News (you know, the tabloid with the pictures of abominable snowmen and alien spaceship landings). In all fairness, they did post a retraction of sorts, but still....

All that uncertainty hasn't stopped my.IS member David Huang (screen name IS300eR) the subject of not one, but two my.IS Front Page articles during 2006, from attempting to shed some light on the subject. Actually, that's something of an understatement, since David flew out to Tokyo and took a shedload of pictures (as the British so politely put it) of the IS F Racing Concept and posted them on a thread on our new International Forum.

14977And what do those pictures reveal about the IS F Racing Concept? First and foremost, it appears to be far more Concept than Racer. Although I am not an expert in the intricacies of the rulebooks of all the racing series the IS F Racing Concept has been rumo(u)red to participate in, the bodywork certainly doesn't look like the late Lexus IS350 American Le Mans Series GT2 car's. Also, what does the Y. Yaguchi name on the rear door windows signify? After going on a wild goose chase to both Wikipedia and the official English language Super GT racing websites, the realization came that "Y. Yaguchi" is simply a homage to Lexus IS F Chief Engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi!

Lexus' official Japanese website has also updated and expanded its Tokyo Auto Salon 2008 with NAPAC microsite. And, in keeping with the international flavo(u)r, my.IS member Supershyguy also posted pictures from the Tokyo Auto Salon in a Canada Forum thread.

Despite our shortcomings at Team Lexus with not being able to complete our cars, I can't even begin to tell you how great it is to see someone else pick up the torch and run with it regardless if it's in the US or not.
