My boyfriend is looking to upgrade the rotors & pads on his IS350. I think we're going to order the rotors from Rotora, but when I was looking to see how much a direct OEM replacement would be, I came across this other part called a "splash shield". Does anyone know what this part is, and if it is necessary to replace when changing the rotors & pads? Neither of us have heard of a "splash shield" before, let alone whether to replace it.

Input would be much appreciated as I need to order the new stuff within a few days! Thanks.

You should be good changing the rotors and pads.

I have a feeling the splash guard listed on that site is a metal backing plate that goes behind the rotor (side facing engine). You don't change that part with your brake pads, etc.

See this metal plate? I think that's what the webpage is referring to (not exactly the same... but the same type of device).
