What's with all these recalls on American cars? Firestone tires, Ford Focus, Chrysler Voyager... The list goes on. Why is this happening all at once? Maybe this will finally wake up the governing bodies that control automobile safety.

Bad things do seem to happen in bunches...and Firestone, to a certain extent, isn't solely the fault of Americans...

I wouldnt just state its a American problem. Mitsubishi had a HUGE recall from Japan and US markets. The problem with Firestone is not Fords problem ( although they hid the facts somewhat). I don't know what is worse rolling my expedition because of a tire blow out or not being able to stop a Galant doing 100mph, sucks either way you look at it.
