Just wanted to post my impressions of the PFS 3" exhaust system
modified with a 3" additional muffler.
For background, I bought my IS300 last Fall from Gold_IS300(Don)
with an excellent PFS Stage 2 kit and tranny mods already done.
The car was beautiful but the drone from the PFS 3" exhaust was very
annoying to me and my wife. I have never been able to tolerate any
level of exhaust drone. I spoke to Ray about this issue and he suggested
an in-line muffler he had tried on a number of turbo IS's with success.
Sound:
I have had the muffler for about 2 months now and the car is so much
more enjoyable to drive. The drone is gone. On trips, I no longer feel fatigued
from the sonic onslaught. Very close to a stock car. Nice! From the outside,
the car sounds less like a pissed off bumble bee and much like a stock twin
Supra with a HKS Dragger exhaust. Much deeper and throatier.
Performance:
I dyno'd the car at PFS after the muffler install(no prior to compare with),
and made [email protected] of boost with a rich A/F. I'm not sure at what
hp level it might become a restriction, but I doubt that I will ever push the
car past ~470rwhp with future mods.
Spool-up of the turbo does not seem to be affected. I can still brake-boost
to 5lbs very rapidly to launch(stock stall/2mm hg/60-1 hi-fi) which is more
than my 245/45/17 Nitto drag radials can hold with open rear on the street.

To sum it up: Great product! The only downside is that now I have a hard
time getting the car from my wife. ;)

Nice review. My car is going to Ray the first week of April for the same concern/mod. My car made 519rwhp with the full 3" so i'll chime in as to any possible restrictions around that level....

Any pics of where you placed the resonator/inline muffler, and what diameter/length? I sold a PFS 3" a while back for the same reasons you spoke of. Terrible drone/sound IMO!

Its an 18" long 6" diameter muffler with 3" inlet and outlet. It is positioned
under the rear seat bench. I am not sure of the baffle type/design but
I'm sure Ray could give you that info.

t67-IS,
That would be great. I'd be very interested in how it works on
a car with that much power.
Thanks

Do you know what brand the muffler is? Also could you take a picture of the exhaust so we can all know where it's located at incase others might wanna do this mod. I have a 3" PFS exhaust and I also have that loud drone sound.

I'm fairly certain that Ray uses Borla xr-1 mufflers for this application.

The muffler is 14" rearward of where the cat-back bolts to the
mid-pipe.
Thanks for the info on the muffler brand t-67IS.

Its 6" diameter and round in shape. I don't have my digital camera to
get a picture though. Give Ray a call. I'm pretty sure he would have
them in stock.
Thanks

This is interesting. I was gonna get the pfs 3", but ended up getting the SRT 3", which i haven't received yet. Has anyone experienced this issue with the srt exhaust?

I have the SRT 3" + S/C with headers and it sound good till about 3k. Without the headers it sounded really good throughout the whole powerband. Nice low tone and not too loud, now im thinking about doing something like this . . .
