I was looking into getting a aftermarket CD player to play MP3s. I looked at Best Buy and asked about installation and the guy said that they couldn't do it unless I replaced all of my factory speakers because there is no way to hook up the stock speakers to the new head unit. Is this true?? Can you hook the stock speakers up to a aftermarket head unit? If so, would there be a huge loss in sound quality versus the stock unit?? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!! Incase needed, I planned on getting to head unit found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=43947&item=2441343755 Thanks again!

What the F? Of course you can get an aftermarket head unit and hook it up to the stock speakers!! Now there might be something special with the one you are looking at, I don't know to much about that unit, but I would assume it can be done. Anyone with knowledge on this specific unit speak up! Have you tried any other places other than Best Buy?

Replace all the speakers as its not worth it to use the factory speakers. The rear speakers are actually 2 sets and the 6*9's are 2 ohms. Radio's are not designed to run a 2 ohm load. A x-over network needs to be created for the rears and to be honest, it still sounds like ass. I have done this on several customers cars and they all come back or go to another shop to have the speakers replaced. You cannot use the factory amp!!!

A cheap set of $50.00 6*9's and $40.00 6.5" coaxials will sound 100% better than trying to use the factory setup.

You may get away with keeping the front speakers, the rear ones, however, need to go.

Ok, so if I was to replace the speakers...do I have to run all new speaker wire too or will I be able to use the stock stuff. Also, is there any problem with removing to stock stereo?? I remember on past cars that I have had when you remove the stereo....keyless entry and shit may not work anymore. Thanks for the help...it is greatly appreciated.

Keyless entry will still work. Stock speaker wiring may be used. Keep in mind there are 2 sets of wires running for each of rear speakers.
Another thing to look for is the dash kit. 3 are available. I prefer JDM kit made for Altezza. It fits the best, but needs 2 buttons relocation if heated seats are equipped.

P.S.
Afermarket speakers will not directly replace stock ones. MDF cutout needs to be made to adapt factory openings to the aftermarket ones.

Yes, adding just a sub and amp is easy. 3 easy steps.

1) Splice the low frequency speaker signals going to the rear 6x9 wookers to either a LLC (line level converted), or if your amp has high level input, just connect the spliced signal directly to the amp.

2) Run unswitched power from the battery to the trunk for the amp

3) Run a switch power (e.g. cigarette lighter) to the trunk to turn on and off the amp

I guess there really is a 4th step which is to ground the amp but that should be ovbious. Anyway, sounds like you'll be getting an installer to do this for you and they should know what to do unless they are complete idiots!

Also.....
I will be the 3rd person to say this: No, there is no good way to keep the stock speakers with an aftermarket head unit. If you do, it'll just be a hack job.
