I notice this problem too... I had the car only for 2 weeks and I aleady have 2 chips on the hook! I got some touch-up paint at a local lexus service department. Does lexus cars have thin paint job? I never realize this problem on my bmw.

There have been numerous threads on this before. I never believed em until a couple days ago when I noticed the little chips on my hood too? This can't be good. The car is only 2 months old. I'd hate to see what my hood looks like after one year.

Maybe I'll fork over a paint job after a couple years? or perhaps Lexus might do something about it? ....i dunno

I posted this topic awhile back and since I've had the IS (early July), I've counted 12 paint chips of various sizes mostly on the hood, front bumper, and side panels. I just talked to my service guy this morning and gave me suggestions for preventative measures, then told me it was the slope of the hood and the lack of chrome on the hood that has contributed to the chips. Basically, no help. One of the salesmen said, "You should see some of the Lexus owners that live in Palm Springs. Their cars look like they've been sandblasted." I I guess that was supposed to make me feel better? Lexus, if your listening, you have to do something this!

When my car was had paint chips, I used GS scratch remover and it turned out great!!! And if it's scratched pretty deep, GS also comes with fill ins'. All this is at Pep Boys for under 20 I think, mine on the other hand was free.

stop lying to them eddie...those mean ass scratches from whe nyou backed up onto that boulder are still there...
i thought gs27 was some kind of filler but when i used it (EDWARD 93033's bottle too) it felt grainy and i guess its a mild abrasive that sands down the scratch...

Sk8ter,

Just an FYI. You're mention of the 3M film is incorrect. Scotchcal intentionally doesn't block UV rays so that your car's paint will age and therefore will still match after you take the film off.

I seen some type of stone shield that fits the contours of the Hood and lights very nice on a japanese site... It looks like clear glossy lexan. I think that would be cool if we could find a dealer in the US?
maybe someone like LUND? or VENTSHADE? etc etc.
