Hi there, I jsut got my silver IS300 last saturday! THIS BABY ROCKS! I was wondering what type of oil does the IS300 typically uses? I mean what does the dealers uses everytime they change the oil. But anyways is there any security system upgrade for the car? such as remote starter??

Congrats! I purchased my Silver IS last Saturday too but had to pick it up on Monday cuz I couldn't cut em the insurance paperwork till then. The dealer recommended using 5w 30 for the oil. As far as aftermarket alarms, I'm looking into that myself.Have fun breakin it in!

From the manufacture it comes with mobile 10 W 30 motor oil. If you are going to use something different start now and stay consistent. I also have heard from the dealer not to use synthetic oil. (so they say).

Why shouldn't u use synthetic oil???

Toyota said that you can, but if you do switch to synthetic, don't do it until 5k miles and stay with it--don't switch back to dinosaur oil.

Happy ISsing!!!! My car just hitted 1260 miles because of the daily commute. But what about the 0w 30 oil? and synthetic? do they use synthetic or regular oil? because i want to start using synthetic on the car.
what's the difference between synthetic and non-synthetic oil? What kind of effect does each have on the car?

Sean
you should check w/lexus...the aftermarket alarm voids warranty
Congrats on the new purchase, I have the exact same feelings as yourself as well as many others. Picked mine up on Dec. 1, have about 350 miles and waiting for the 1000 miles break in period. Look thru your manual on pg190, gives you break in rules adn it says it uses 5-30 wt. oil, but doesn't say if it is mobile or not. Check with your lexus dealer. In the mean time baby her and she'll treat you right.

There's been a ton of topics posted in the past about what oils to use, pros and cons about sythetic, what is synthetic oil, etc.
Just do a search and you should get the info you all need.

CHIEM,
My dealer told me not to switch to synthetic until 10,000 'cause the engine's still too new.(?) Whatever the case, I'll be switching to synthetic at 10,000 which should be in the next 3-4 months.
