DS8 and I have volunteered to co-chair.
We are looking for four or so "coordinators" who help out by taking functional responsibility for various aspects:
1) Accommodations & facilities (Mayo has volunteered for this! Many thanks, Greg!!)
2) Sponsors/Promotions (donations, lining up sponsors, registration goodie bags? Who knows? Be creative.)
3) Food/BBQ (acquiring the goodies to put on the vittles portion of this event)
4) Events (planning the cruises, Ribfest, photo shoot, cornhole tournament, etc.)


Each coordinator will also need help. Volunteers needed!! (PM me and/or DS8 to volunteer as a coordinator or to help with something.) Plan on doing something, whether it be calling your local Lexus dealer and begging for key fobs or cleaning trash at the BBQ. It's a great way to meet some of your fellow enthusiasts!


There will likely be a registration fee of some sort ($$ to be determined) that buys food/beverages for the BBQ. We'll probably have a la carte options for t-shirts, mousepads, or things like that.


The goals are simple:
1) Largest IS turnout ever
2) Good time for all
3) No undue burden on anyone.


We'll soon set up additional threads for who's coming, what to bring, a poll on whether we should cater the BBQ (more $$$) or just buy & burn, plus a hotel thread (we'll work to secure a block of rooms at a special price), directions to the various events, etc.

Look forward to seeing old friends and new at OH2K8 this year!!

This is guaranteed to be one of the greatest times you'll ever have. Ask anyone that has been to any of the OH meets, and they will all tell you the entire weekend is a frickin' blast! Don't miss out on the fun and the wonderful memories you will create.

Next, how are we writing our number of attendees? Does "+1" mean "2 total"....you and one other? Thats how I usually interpret it, but this could make a huge difference in the total count depending on how people read it.

I want to share a little story with all my fellow IS friends. Back in August of last year I was doing some running around on my day off, the usual ... gas , groceries, etc. Well anyway, I went to do some shopping at the Whole Foods down here (I think theres one in Cleveland and one in Cincy) I parked my car and began to walk through the parking lot. It was unbearably hot that day, about the 4th or 5th day in a string of days where the temp was 90+ and humidity was crazy high. As I was about halfway to the store, I saw a woman sitting underneath the little "return your cart here" shelter. As I approached she started saying something to me that I couldn't make out. I walked twards her and asked her to repeat what she said. She looked about 40ish and was very skinny and disheveled. She asked "Do you have any spare food or water sir, it's a really hot day" I was taken aback a bit ..... this is Dublin my brain was telling me .. an area where the median income approaches 200k. I said "No I don't I'm sorry" and she said "Ok thank you" As I continued to walk twards to the store something changed inside of me, I thought "she didn't ask for money, she didn't ask for cigarettes, she asked for food and water" This is the greatest nation on the face of the planet (I believe that, I truly do). I couldn't let this stand. By the time I hit the door I had decided to do something. I went and bought a sandwich and a 1.5 liter of water and came back out looking for her .. but she was gone. I got in my car and torched a 1/4 tank of gas driving around the parking lot and surrounding area looking for her .. no dice. I finished my shopping and went home. I got home and sat down, feeling totally dejected. I reluctantly ate the sandwich and drank the water, feeling that throwing it out would have been even a greater sin than someone going hungry. I then remembered the food drive we held at werk and the agency it benefited.The Mid-Ohio FoodBank I immediately saw an opportunity to help. I called them up and ever since, I've been going 2-3 times per month to help sort and package food for the homeless and needy. A month or so after my initial encounter with the "homeless" person, she was there again, and I was able to make good on my original intentions. I handed her a bag with a sandwich and water, told her that if she was here again next time I came, I'd have a list of agencies and their phone numbers that could get her help if she wanted it. She just nodded at me and took the bag. As I turned to go I heard her softly say "Sir", I turned around and she said "Thanks for caring" I nodded and returned to my car and drove away. After about 500 ft I had to stop because the tears wouldn't stop and I was afraid I would cause an accident. Anyway what I'm getting at here is if we have enough people show up the Thursday night before OH2k8, that we maybe volunteer for about 3 hours on Friday (9-noon) at the food bank. It's close to downtown, so we could hit the Rib and Jazz Fest afterwards, and would bring added value to the entire event. Thoughts ??
