Background-
The Lexus IS300 is a rear-wheel drive, compact luxury sports sedan manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corp. under the Lexus brand and originally sold as the Toyota Altezza in Japan. The model was introduced to slot below the ES in the Lexus lineup and to compete against the BMW 3 Series and the Nissan Skyline/Infiniti G. The first-generation Altezza (codename XE10) was launched in Japan in October 1998, while the Lexus IS200 made its debut in Europe in 1999 and the IS300 in North America in 2001. The "IS" stands for "Intelligent Sport. The 2JZ-GE powered IS series engine, although not as popular as it's turbocharged (2JZ-GTE) brother, is a 3.0 liter inline six cylinder, mounted longitudinally and, unlike the 2JZ-GTE, features Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) on the intake camshaft which provides both improved low-end torque and high rpm horsepower. Also fits the 1998-2005 2nd generation Lexus GS300 (Toyota Aristo)

BC Valve Springs and Retainers

2JZGE Valve Spring & Retainer Kits
Designed for high rpm, BC valve springs are wound from only the highest grade, super clean, chrome silicone alloy and feature proprietary processing procedures for consistent pressures. BC titanium retainers are CNC machined from 6AL4V round bar titanium to exacting tolerances.

BC Valves

2JZGE Stainless Steel Valves
BC valves are one piece design with a friction welded Stellite tip for the best possible performance. Every valve is made from premium grade, heat resistant stainless steel material to insure reliability with high boost and/or high rpm applications. The undercut stem above the head area not only reduces overall weight for extended rpm potential, but also significantly improves air/fuel flow in and out of the combustion chamber. Every valve is fully machined and features a swirl polished finish under the head.

Specs for valve clearance:
Intake Measurment- .006"-.010"
Exhaust Measurement- .010".014"

* Spec clearances to tight side of OEM spec (when re shimming)

So I've heard conflicting reports about needing to reshim the lifters after doing BC cams.

It sounds like the early cams needed every lifter to be reshimmed, and the newer ones require one or two, if that to be reshimmed.

Did BC change the cams early vs late? Can anyone clarify what I've found?

Have not heard , but any time you change cams (any)and durations every clearance needs to be checked and changed as need be . Note every engine is different , shims and clearance will always differ.

Early cams had a smaller base circle diameter, thus needing all new shims everywhere. The newer cams use the OEM base circle, so you are likely ok with the shims you have. I had to move 4 of mine around, but wound up with perfect lash.

Additionally, during the ECU re-learn (battery was disconnected) I had a rough idle, and threw intermittent/random misfire codes, and specific cylinder misfire codes. Once the ECU relearned, the idle smoothed out and the misfire codes went away.

Don't ever assume you dont have to check clearances ! Always check and adjust
