so anyways, this might sound stupid to some, but please fill me in. so what is the difference between a cat-back and just direct bolt-on exhausts like the HKS ones? also, can you turn the HKS ones into cat-back? hope im making some sense. becasue i read on the column when they tested out the xerd products, it was said that the IS had a HKS Hiper cat-back. thanks guys.

The difference between a " cat-back" and " axle-back " exhausts are as follows:
Cat-back= this system will replace the stock exhaust from the end of the stock Y pipe all the way out the rear of the car.
Axle-back= this system replaces the stock muffler pipping only. Usually these start right in front of the rear axle. The axle-back style keeps more of the stock exhaust pipping than a full cat-back.
I've never heard of a HKS Hiper cat-back, but maybe its out there.
