IS300 is an awesome car. Looks and performs nicely. Could use about 50 more hp stock, but whatever. There are tons of aftermarket mods available. The Inline 6 is a terrific engine and will most likely go away in the 2005 model year. Search around this site...tons of information on the car here.

Without any background, we can't offer much advise. Obviously, we all love our cars.

Go for the manual as many people here tried auto first, only to end up with a manual. IMO, the driving feel is vastly different.

Wisdom? Well, there aren't a lot of problems. People are paying within $1000 of invoice so set your target.

If you want to avoid the annoyance of paint chips on the front end, get a clear bra like X-pel applied. You'll want to get some touch up paint from the dealer anyway.

If buying new, get the dealer to give you a cargo net for the trunk. Small item, but very handy.

Then, take your wife for a drive with you.
Lexus is a safe car to drive. That is something of a high importance, esp if you drive with a child.

i personally love my car. i just wish there was more room in the back for passengers.
also since you just had a baby (congrats) you wanna find out if the baby seat fits back there. ive heard other members complain that a baby seat is tough to get in the back. something haveing to do with the way the bench is set up.

If you haven't yet, you should both test-drive the vehicles. You will definitely be impressed with the feel of the Lexus. Maybe you should also mention to your wife that Lexus is much more reliable than the VW.

I totally recommend you buying one. I love mine to death and love it even more that its moded. Do you plan to mod it any? Stock ISs r in need of a drop IMO, so much wheel well gap makes it look like 4x4. All I needed was to test drive it...
