For those with 17-inch summer tires, I'm interested in what your plans are for the upcoming winter and snow. From what I've heard here, leaving them on and driving (even in light snow) is pretty risky, so I'm planning on getting a set of all-seasons. I've heard that whenever you take-off or remount tires, there is a good chance of bubbling or some sort of damage to the tires. Can anyone comment on the chances of damaging the tires, as well as your plans for the winter?

I plan on buying some winter tires with a set of decent looking low-budget 17" (possibly used) just to kick around in the snow and slush and salt with. I don't want my stock allows to go throught that punishment. Oh and there always a chance of damage, it depends on the people who mount the tires. Go with a more professional shop. That can afford to give you new tires if the screw up yours..not to mention scratching up your rims..

get some 16s... with either snow tires or all sesaons... works like a charm..and who gives a fu ck if you scratch them... they are only 16s..

Usually tire rack or discount tire direct have good deals on stock wheels with Snow tires around winter time. check the ads in the fall

There we go again...

For our piles of snow, it is best to get dedicated snow tires and rims. 16" would work the best, for they are way better for all the potholes on the road during winter.

Funny you should mention remounted tires bubbling up. I got 1 bubble on a tire that was remounted. I hit the same pothole w/ front and the rear tire, and only the front one, the one that was remounted, bubbled up.

I have a set of Dunlop Graspic ds-1 snow tires that I put on the 17's. They are excellent on snow. YOU NEED SNOW TIRES, DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE IN THE SNOW WITH STOCK TIRES !!! OK, just a warning.

I am planning on getting a set of snow tires for my 17 inch, then buy a set of 18's next summer. I think it beats buying 16's since you are spending only a little less on those.
