so should I get a new IS or used?
if I go used, which year do you reccomend?

I would like to save money, which is why used sounds apealing, but If the new ones have added features, then it may be a difficult choice.
I konw so little about these cars, I need your advice

thanks in advance

The biggest differences were between 2001 and 2002. So you can get a used 2002 or '03 and not be out anything special.

Yup, unless you want the memory seat (2004 model only).
Yeah, that and the "SD" headlights and tails.

But memory seats don't matter to me (and I think most people) because NOBODY drives my car but me.

so 2002 might be the best best for saving a little bit of money but still getting all the main features?

depends on mileage

If you don't mind buying with 35K or more getting used will save you some bills. But if you need one with low miles (under 10K) you won't save very much. I looked at used with low miles and they were going for $3,000 less than new, not enough to make the difference.
